Grade 1&2: Are being introduced to foundational music theory concepts, focusing on crotchets and crotchet rests to understand rhythm and note values. Through hands-on activities and guided practice, they are learning to recognize, clap, and notate simple rhythmic patterns.
Grade 3 & 4: Are building on their music theory knowledge, grade 3&4 are refining their ability to read, write, and perform musical notations. By engaging in rhythmic exercises, instrumental practice, and even dance, they are deepening their understanding of note values while also developing confidence in musical literacy.
Grade 5 & 6: Have been expanding on their knowledge of music theory by working with crotchets, crotchet rests, and quavers to create and perform their own rhythmic compositions. Through structured activities and creative exploration, they are tasked with arranging unique bars of music and bring their compositions to life through performance.
PE
What a fantastic start to the year in PE! To kick things off, students in Grades 2–6 participated in our Fastest Class Running Competition. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm, teamwork and encouragement across all year levels.
Congratulations to 3A, who were crowned our Junior Champions, and 5B, who took out the Senior title! A huge effort from both classes. we look forward to seeing if you can retain the crown in Term 2!
There’s plenty happening this term:
Before School Run Club – Open to Grades 3–6 students who are keen to build their fitness and start the day actively.
Swimming Program (March 2–6) – Our Grade 2 and Grade 4 students will be participating in their swimming program.
Cross Country (March 27) – Grades 3–6 students will compete in our annual Cross Country event.
Interschool Sport – Our Grade 6 students are set to begin their weekly interschool sport sessions.
It’s shaping up to be a busy and exciting term in PE, and we can’t wait to see our students continue to challenge themselves, support one another and get involved.

Art
IN THE ART ROOM
Welcome back everyone. The most exciting news to come from the art room is – we have relocated. The art room is now attached to the PAC and the Auslan rooms with the entrance via the footpath in the car park.
The move now makes Visual Arts part of an Arts hub for CGPS.
During semester one, grades Prep, 1, 2 and 3 will be participating in visual arts activities. Our big focus will be our art show at the beginning of term 3.
Parents may find their child/ren are not bring home as many art works during the build up towards the art show as I will be madly collecting pieces for display. However, be assured students will have all their work returned after the event. Unfortunately, this will be a big wait for the Preps.
Please keep in mind that while participating in the activities we will be using paint and other messy mediums. A named art smock is the ideal way to keep uniforms as clean as possible. I will do my best to keep your child clean and stain free but can not guarantee success if they do not have an art smock.
Any donations of egg cartons, newspapers, wool, fabric, cardboard rolls, etc will always be gladly accepted.
Regards,
Monica Curnow
