YEAR 5/6 CAMP

The air tasted like fresh water as I entered the canoe.  I felt very scared and I was shaking as I entered the water.  When I looked down I could see moss, algae, dirt, mud and stones. My heart was beating really fast and I felt my body tighten.

I was very scared but I took a deep breath and started canoeing.  I had to overcome my fear and not think about the canoe being tipped over.  The canoe tipping over was my biggest fear but after a while I adjusted to the water.  I had to distract  myself so I said funny stories and I started singing.

I was partners with Anna and we were paddling together.  We learnt we have to paddle the same direction but opposite sides to go forwards.  We used our teamwork together and started paddling and overcoming our fear.  It was very funny because while the other people did like two laps around the whole river, me and Anna only paddled in the shallow, front area.

Without us knowing the other canoes were coming towards us.  We were very scared that they would bump into us and our canoe would tip over.  But luckily we used our professional canoeing skills by putting the paddle on the side surface and pushing us away and paddling away fast.  We were basically naturals at this for knowing all the skills.

After at the end of the day me and Anna told everyone that we were naturals.  It was a great experience while scary at the same time.  I couldn't stop thinking about it!

The loud smack is music to my ears, as I send the round, soft ball rocketing to the other side of the octagonal pit.  The ball hits the warm flesh of a boys shin and they hop out, looking longingly at the people left.  Albert takes control of the ball now, relentlessly slamming it against the side and many legs.  He stands in the middle, rotating in a circular motion, sending the ball after everybody and everything.  After nearly a full rotation someone decides to send a missile back at him, and he skillfully dodges, jumping back to the shelter of the sides and other people.

Quite a few hits later, it was down to the final five.  Unfortunately, I miss a hit and the ball knocks my leg; I’m out.  I watch as the last few battle it out, eventually the winner is crowned and we all jump back in.  The process repeats a few more times, before we have to stop.

After some gruelling GaGa ball, everyone jumped on the bus, and we headed for home. On the way back I sat next to Albert and we talked about a range of different subjects, we both even fell asleep for a bit, before we had to stop for lunch.  The rolls we had weren't the best food we’d ever had, but they were food in our stomachs.  I had a ham and cheese one, but I didn’t really like the cheese.  The ham was okay though, and the overall taste was alright.  After eating and playing on the provided playground, we all hopped back on the bus for the second half of our journey. All in all, the day was a whole lot of fun!
