Languages Day

Fun with Languages 2026
Fun with German – Spaß mit Deutsch! – is the first time many of our students visit Heathmont. On Mon 11th May we welcomed 100 Year 5 students from Rangeview Primary School – a new school to our Spaß mit Deutsch network. This year, all of our current Year 7 students were also included in the day’s activities, expanded to a celebration of Languages.
German staff, with the help of our wonderful Year 10 German students, organised 3 rotations, with 4 language and culture activities. These were:
Franz Marc-style Artwork Creation;
European Handball;
Indonesian Jeopardy;
and Millionärskoffer – A German Scavenger Hunt.
All students – Rangeview Year 5s and Heathmont Year 7s – participated in the activities with enthusiasm, supporting one another, having fun and learning together.
Thanks must go to all participants, accompanying Rangeview staff, Frau Driscoll and Frau Fittje for setting up and running activities, Heathmont Year 10 German students for assisting with set-up and running activities, Heathmont staff who supervised their Year 7 classes during activities and Year 12 student, Lillian Davidson, who generously gave up a free period to volunteer! Without everybody’s assistance, the day cannot run!
“I liked how there was new people. I liked the handball. I liked everything about the day” Byron
“I liked everything about this task and how we got to meet a bunch of year 5's that might come to this school.” Quinn
“I enjoyed the day because I thought that the hand ball was fun and it was very inclusive. The scavenger hunt with the jeopardy was good. I think that the art part was fun because you could express your artistic style.” Aston
“I enjoyed meeting the year 5 students. I also enjoyed doing all of the activities. My personal favourite was the jeopardy quiz, because my group won lollies!” Indianna
