Our Easter Paraliturgy at the end of term one, was a very prayerful and moving expression of our Catholic faith for our school community. ANZAC Day Prayer Service

Last Friday  we gathered as a school community for our ANZAC commemoration remembering the sacrifices of our service men and women from Australia and New Zealand.  It was a beautiful ceremony and our students were so prayerful and respectful. Thank you to Mrs Kuric and the staff for preparing this moving and reflective ceremony.

It was wonderful to see many parents join with us to remember.

God of Help, God of Love, and God of Peace, in this season of Easter we rejoice in the New Life your Son the Risen Jesus gives us. You offer us hope. You offer us peace.

We thank you for these treasured lands of ours, New Zealand and Australia. May we learn from the suffering of the past; And show the spirit of the ANZACs in our lives – courage, resilience, persistence, selflessness, mateship, enjoyment, initiative. May we strive to live by the values of Your son Jesus - the values of love, compassion, peace and forgiveness, that will lead us all to true freedom.

We ask this through Jesus who shows us the way of peace.  Amen.

Good Shepherd Sunday

Yesterday we celebrated our parish’s feast day – Good Shepherd Sunday and the closing Mass of what has been a fantastic year of 50th anniversary celebrations in our parish. It was a beautiful parish mass celebrated by Bishop Rene Ramirez, Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne. It was a wonderful occasion to acknowledge the contributions of so many over the past 50 years and also to look forward to the continued success of our vibrant parish.

Today our Years 5 and 6 students gatherer together with our Parish schools for a day of celebration to commemorate the feast day. It was a wonderful day and I thank Mrs Kuric and our Yr 5 & 6 teachers for their support.

Confirmation

Please keep our Year 6 students in your prayers as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this Sunday at St Patrick’s Cathedral, alongside students from Good Shepherd and Mary Queen of Heaven. The Sacrament will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Bishop Leslie Tomlinson. We wish our students and their families every blessing on this special and significant milestone in their faith journey.

Mental Computation Information Evening:  How Can I Help My Child with Maths?

Monday 11th May | 6:00 p.m.

We warmly invite parents of children in Years 1–6 to attend our upcoming Mental Computation Information Evening, facilitated by Dr Bern Long, on Monday 11th May at 6:00 p.m. This informative session will explore the key areas of mental computation, including addition and subtraction, followed by multiplication and division. Parents will gain valuable insight into how these concepts are taught at school, as well as practical ways to support their child at home, particularly in building strong number facts and confidence with times tables. For more information and to register your attendance, please refer to the Audiri notice sent last week.

At St Carlo Borromeo, we place a strong emphasis on mental computation, as it plays a vital role in developing students’ confidence and success in mathematics. We strongly encourage all parents to attend this valuable evening and partner with us in supporting your child’s mathematical development.

P&F Meeting

All parents are warmly invited to attend our next P&F meeting, to be held tomorrow, Tuesday 28 April at 2:30 p.m. in the staffroom. At this meeting, we will be discussing upcoming plans and welcoming new ideas.

  • Date: Tuesday 28th April
  • Time: 2.30 p.m.
  • Where: Staffroom

Mother's Day Celebration

We warmly invite you to join us next Thursday May 7, as we come together to celebrate the wonderful women in our lives at our Annual Mother’s Day Breakfast Celebration commencing with breakfast in the hall from 8:30 a.m. followed by a visit to your child's classroom. Please refer to the Audiri post which has all of the information.

Our Annual Mothers’ Day Stall will also be held on Thursday May 7, where students can purchase a gift for their Mum, Special Person, or Grandmother(s).

Parent Helpers

We love to have parent helpers in the classrooms. Parents need to have completed our Parent Helper Training and have a current Working with Children Card. It was wonderful to see so many parents who are eager to help, attend our training for classroom helpers and excursions last week.  Thank you to Mrs Fimiani and Miss Sardo for running this session.

School Uniform

Traditionally, students move to their winter uniform at the commencement of Term 2. However, we recognise that the weather during late April and early May can often remain mild.  To ensure students are comfortable, we will allow families to decide when their child transitions to the winter uniform at the beginning of the term.

Students are required to wear the correct uniform at all times. This means they may wear either:

  • the full summer uniform, or
  • the full winter uniform

Please note that a combination of summer and winter uniform, or a mix of old and new uniform items, is not permitted.

School hat should still be worn for the first three weeks.

We will transition to the full winter uniform in two weeks, from Monday, May 11. Thank you for your ongoing assistance in ensuring your children are meeting the dress code of our school.

Birthday Treats - a reminder

Some parents, particularly from the junior classes, like to send a birthday treat to share with your child's class. Items need to be individually wrapped, not require refrigeration or special care, and will be given out at the end of the school day.

Dogs at School

A reminder to all families that dogs are not permitted on school grounds at any time, including being tied to the school gates. This is in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, as well as the welfare of the animals themselves.

We have students with allergies and others who may feel anxious or frightened around dogs. For these reasons, we ask that dogs are left at home, or that you wait well away from the school grounds when accompanied by your pet.

Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us maintain a safe environment for all.

School Fees

A further reminder as we still have some families who have not yet paid the Student Levy fee and the First Instalment of school fees. If you have not settled these very overdue accounts, can this be done immediately or make an appointment to see me to discuss this situation.

Road Works Notification – Drummond Street

We wish to inform families that Hume City Council has engaged contractors to construct a new footpath along Drummond Street (between Swinton Way and Normanby Drive).

Works are scheduled to commence on Monday 27 April 2026 and are expected to take approximately four weeks, weather permitting. During this time, there may be traffic restrictions between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Traffic controllers will be onsite to assist, and all roads will reopen outside of working hours. We encourage families who use Drummond Street to allow extra time for travel in the area and thank you for your patience and cooperation while these improvements are completed.

  • Monday May 4 - School Closure Day
  • Friday June 5 - School Closure Day
  • Term two will conclude on Thursday June 25 at 1:00 p.m.

We ask St Carlo Borromeo to continue to bless our wonderful Parish and School Community.

I hope that you have a great week!
