Primary Bulletin

Since my last report, we have held our Swimming Carnival at Yarra Swim School.
It was a wonderful afternoon with the students joining in the fun of the event, cheering on for their houses and friends.
I was really impressed with the willingness of the students to put their hands up to have a go in the races, challenges and just for fun activities. It was great to see parents coming along to watch and help out on the day also. The swimming events gave the children the opportunity to win points for their houses, with Carter (Gold) coming out as the winning house overall.
Last week, the Year 4,5,6 students participated in their Life Education Sessions. The 90-minute sessions Relate, Respect, Connect and Friends & Feelings centred around understanding how to respect ourselves and others, strategies to help maintain positive online and offline relationships, identifying characteristics of positive relationships, how to recognise, react and report unwanted contact, bullying or predatory behaviours and explored how positive relationships benefit our health and wellbeing.
The Year Prep-3 students will participate in their Life education sessions this week.
In the Prep/1 session Ready, Steady, Go: students will learn the benefits of activity and what our body needs to be healthy and happy.
In the Year 1/2 class session Safety Rules: students will learn all areas of safety including wearing seatbelts, sun safety, safe play, water safety, safety with medicines and safety online. It also teaches them about the idea of connections, including people who keep us safe and building help seeking skills, developing children’s agency to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
The Year 2/3 class session Growing good Friends: students will learn the role of relationships, the importance of kindness & care, and benefits of making new friends.
The students are working particularly hard this term and their level of engagement has been most impressive. I encourage them to keep up the good work as they embody our school values every day.
