Religious Education News

Well it has certainly been a jam packed term R.E. wise culminating this week with our Holy Week liturgies and the Project Compassion coin line.
Last week, the Grade 4s led the school beautifully in their Prayer Gathering celebrating Palm Sunday.
On Monday, all class groups participated in a Holy Thursday liturgy where teachers led students through the events of the Last Supper from John's gospel, where Jesus showed his disciples how to love and serve others by doing something surprising and washing their feet. Classes then reflected on different ways we can serve others in our own lives in their classrooms.
On Tuesday, the students participated in a Stations of the Cross reflection on the courts, again led by teachers, in their class groups. This was a really reflective experience, where students were invited to journey in Jesus' suffering and consider how this story, and how each station, is still relevant and meaningful for us today. There is a display in the library that gives a snapshot of the Holy Week journey and the learning our kids have been a part of during this sacred time in our Catholic calendar.
When we return for Term 2, the whole school will celebrate 'Alleluia Day' on the first Monday back to celebrate the risen Christ and the promise of hope that the new Easter season brings. We will have a whole school reflection in the church and then go back to our classrooms to complete an activity that reflects the Easter Sunday story. The whole school will then get together to share their learning.
Yesterday, the whole school, led by the Social Justice leadership team, met on the courts for the Project Compassion coin line. The boxes carried out to the courts were very heavy which made the counting process very difficult for Kathryn and Lauren that day! Well done to the Grade 4 students who had the longest line, closely followed by the Grade 6's. The amount raised was an outstanding $1895! Thank you to Maegan and the Social Justice team for organising and running this event.
