Year 8 Cricket

Congratulations to our Year 8 Boys Cricket team who won the Black Ranges tournament recently, dropping only one wicket across three games. Read on for a report of the day!

"Game one saw us face Wimmera Lutheran College. We won the toss and elected to bat in damp conditions, with Hugh M captaining the side for the day and leading from the front. A strong win against WLC was followed by another convincing victory over Warracknabeal Secondary College.

Our fielding was outstanding, and the energy on the field never dipped. Levi snagged a couple of sharp wickets, while Archie, Jordy and Jack kept their bowling tight and consistent all day. Larry stepped up to the crease, sending down an over and providing solid support from the bowler’s end. Luke kept the morale high across the field, with Oliver chipping in with the occasional over. Zander took on wicketkeeping duties despite it not being his usual gig and did a fantastic job behind the stumps.

After topping the pool rounds, we jumped on the bus, fuelled up on a healthy mix of lollies and adrenaline, and headed to Dimboola Road Oval for the final against Horsham College. Hugh once again won the toss and chose to bat. He and Joel built a strong total of 93 runs.

Sydney stole the show in this match, taking not one, not two, but four sensational catches (plus a wicket for good measure). His efforts earned him “Man of the Match” honours and the coveted match ball as a keepsake.

It was a brilliant day filled with mateship, camaraderie, and moments the boys won’t soon forget. We wish the team all the very best as they move on to represent our College at the Great Western Region level."

Greater Western Cricket!

Well done to our Year 8 boys cricket squad who represented our College at the Greater Western Region tournament last week! Thanks to Mr Taylor who travelled with the students and has given us a match report:

"The Year 8 boys were up before sunrise for a 6:30am departure to Ballarat. Sydney P took charge of the tunes with his boom box, and to Mr Taylor’s surprise, the playlist of Red-Hot Chilli Peppers and Aussie rock hits was right up his alley.

Game 1 – STBC vs Mercy Regional College Mercy. Got off to a flyer with 109 runs in 10 overs. Meanwhile our boys were still waking up in the field, with five dropped catches in a row! Hugh M and Joel P opened the batting and almost pulled off the chase, finishing 104 runs, both not out.

Game 2 – STBC vs Ballarat High School. A sharper fielding effort saw Zander J, Larry E, Finn O, and Jack R stop everything that came their way as Ballarat were held to 79 runs. The chase went down to the final ball with Joel P smashing a six to seal the win.

Game 3 – STBC vs Trinity College. Hugh M and Oliver K set a steady platform before Joel P again anchored the innings. Archie T, Jordy T and Levi M bowled superbly and Luke W took a cracking catch in the field. Two run outs and tight fielding made it a thriller, but Trinity edged home in the final over, 83 runs to 79.Well done to all the students and congratulations to Joel, who smashed 129 runs across the three games!"

Letters from Japan!

Year 10 Japanese students have begun a letter exchange program with students from our sister school in Japan. After a long wait due to school holidays falling at different times for both schools, we have received the first letters from the Japanese students, written in English. Our students were delighted to read them and are now busy writing their replies in Japanese!
