Year 7-8 Girls Football

On Monday 18 May, the Year 7 and 8 girls played AFLW at Kiloran Reserve. With poor weather over night the ground was quite muddy.
We had Ringwood in our first game. Games were 4 x 12-minute quarters. We kicked the first goal and didn’t look back. Lilly Mc was amazing in and under the packs. Letty, Airlie and Charlotte G were dominate around stoppages with great ball use.
All year 7 and 8’s rotated well and stepped up when they were needed showing the Melba fighting spirit. At the final siren we ended up winning 6 goals 4 behinds 40 to 4 goals 1 behind 25. What an amazing win! Since Melba started as a secondary College, we have never beaten any team in any age group. Great effort Year 7/8’s.
A next game was against Norwood who were just a little bit too strong over the 4 quarters. The girls got a bit tired and we started to have a few injuries. We ended up losing by 4 goals.
What an amazing achievements since most of our team were year 7’s with some having never played before.
I look forward to next year and going one step further.
