Principal's Message

Mr Alan Devine

Dear Staughton Community

Reflecting on a Strong Start to the Year

As we reach the halfway point of Term 1 at Staughton College, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the great start we’ve had to the 2025 school year. I hope everyone has settled in well after the break and is feeling motivated to continue making the most of the opportunities ahead.

A special welcome again to our new students and families – we’re thrilled to have you join the Staughton College community! We hope you are now feeling more at home and taking full advantage of the countless opportunities available to you, whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or through the wide variety of extracurricular activities that make Staughton such a vibrant place.

Whole School Assembly – Building Connection and Pride

One of the highlights of the term so far has been our first whole school assembly, where we gathered all students from both the Junior and Senior Schools together.  It was a wonderful experience having everyone in one place, reinforcing our strong sense of community and pride.

At the assembly, we focused on four simple steps to help students actively engage and contribute to our school culture:

  1. Join in – Wear the correct uniform every day and fully engage in your learning.

  2. Celebrate learning – Acknowledge both your own achievements and those of others.      Whether it’s a classmate’s great essay or a teammate’s progress on a project, take the time to recognise and celebrate their hard work.

  3. Respect our environment and each other – Take pride in the spaces where we learn and grow.  Show care and treat each other respectfully by listening and working together.

  4. Ask for help when you need it – Learning is not about doing everything alone.  If you’re stuck, reach out to a teacher, friend, or classmate.  Working together makes us stronger—and smarter.

High-Quality Teaching and Learning in Every Classroom

This year, our focus remains on High-Quality Teaching and Learning in every classroom.  We know that high-quality teaching and learning lifts engagement, develops a love of learning, and enriches student outcomes.

As we move further into the term, we are seeing fantastic engagement from students and look forward to continued growth and success.

Students play a vital role in supporting this focus by embracing their learning opportunities, actively engaging in class, and striving to meet their personal best.  By being curious, prepared, and open to feedback, students can make the most of the high-quality teaching on offer.

Together, students and teachers create a dynamic learning environment that inspires growth, confidence, and success.

High Expectations with High Support

To maintain momentum, we must all work together.   This means reinforcing key expectations that enable students to thrive in their learning:

  1. Uniform: Wearing the correct uniform shows pride in our school and helps maintain a focused and unified environment.   We are here to support families with any uniform challenges.   (Page dedicated to uniform support in this newsletter)

  2. Mobile Phone Usage: Following our school’s mobile phone policy ensures that the classroom remains a place of focused learning without distractions.

  3. Ready to Learn: Arriving to class on time, prepared, and ready to actively engage demonstrates a commitment to personal growth and supports the quality of learning in every lesson.

Our staff will continue to work closely with students to ensure these expectations are understood and met.  By fostering a culture of mutual respect and shared responsibility, we create a positive and productive school culture where high-quality teaching and learning can flourish.

A Community of Growth

We’re incredibly proud of the unique, inclusive, and supportive environment at Staughton College.  Strong partnerships between families, students, and staff are the cornerstone of our success, and I encourage open communication so we can work together to support every student’s journey.

Let’s maintain the great momentum we’ve built in the first half of the term and continue striving for excellence.  Together, through a shared commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive.

Here’s to a fantastic rest of Term 1!
