Principal Report

Dear Families,

 

Welcome back to Term 3. It has been fabulous to see all of our students back at school and ready to learn. This term, our students will be participating in inquiry learning, Mapping Our World. The Preps will learn about My Place and our local community. 1/2s will explore what makes Ballarat unique and its significant places. The 3/4s will examine the diversity of environments and what it would be like to live in a neighbouring country. In 5/6, the students will look at different people, places, and cultures and how they differ around the world. 

 

Staffing News

Over the holidays, Penny, our Business Manager, accepted a new position at Miners Rest Primary School. Penny has been at Dana Street for 3.5 years and, over that time, has made many wonderful contributions to the school office and the broader school community. On behalf of the whole school community, I wish Penny all the best in her new adventures and thank her for her wonderful contributions to Dana Street Primary School. 

 

Term 2 Survey

Last term, the school council surveyed our school community about Communication, Volunteering and Fundraising. We had 38 families respond to this survey. School Council are using these results for future planning and as the basis for the newly formed Fundraising Sub-Committee.

NAPLAN

Earlier this week, our Year 3 and Year 5 students received their individual NAPLAN reports. NAPLAN is one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. Whole-school NAPLAN results helps us to:

  • identify strengths and areas of need in teaching programs

  • to set goals in literacy and numeracy

  • plan for improvement across the school

 

Some Beginning of Term Reminder

Bikes

It is wonderful that so many of our students and families ride their bikes to school. Please remember that bikes must be walked on the school grounds for everyone's safety. 

 

Supervision

The Before and After School Supervision arrangements at Dana Street Primary School. The school grounds are supervised by school staff from 8.30 am until 3.45 pm. Staff only monitor the front of the school playground before and after school. 

 

If students arrive at school before 8.30am, they are required to come to the office area and remain there until 8.30 am. Students are not permitted to enter their classrooms until 8.45 am. Breakfast club is available on Tuesday and Friday mornings in the staff room from 8.30 am. 

 

If students are still in the playground area at 3.45 pm when the final bell rings, they will be sent up to the office foyer, where parents/carers will be contacted, and they will be supervised by staff until collected. 

 

We also remind parents that Extend runs an After School Care program out of St Patrick’s Primary School.
