What's Happening in Performing Arts

All of the amazing students have begun the exciting journey of preparing for our Christmas Carols Celebration! Students are learning a variety of class and level songs, a special Grade 6 and Prep buddy song and fun, action-filled songs for the whole community to enjoy.
This year, our Preps and Grade 5 students will rehearse for their first Nativity performance, which will help set the scene for our Christmas Carols afternoon.
Each class and year level will also focus on developing their understanding of a range of musical elements, which they will showcase in a short Gather Day performance.
- Prep – Twinkle Rock Star: Beat and rhythm
- Level 1/2 – Dinosaur Stomp: Beat, rhythm, melody, tone and texture
- Level 3/4 – Tango Joe: Beat, rhythm, melody, tone, texture, tempo and dynamics
- Level 5/6 – At the Hangi: Beat, rhythm, melody, tone, texture, tempo, dynamics, harmony, style and form
Each week, our music lessons are filled with engaging activities, games and opportunities to develop musical skills, knowledge and understanding. Students explore music from different cultures, learn about historical stories and discuss the social impact of music, particularly from First Nations perspectives.
They develop their understanding of musical elements, learn to read and write rhythmic patterns, and build their knowledge of musical notation. Students also work in small groups to create and compose music before sharing their work through classroom and community performances.
