Diploma of Nursing Pathway

Gain the essential skills and knowledge to work as an enrolled nurse in a variety of healthcare settings with our Diploma of Nursing course.

Students learn how to implement general nursing care, assess client's health and analyse health-related information.  They also learn how to administer and monitor medications and attend to the needs of a range of healthcare clients, including older clients, acute care clients and people with mental health conditions.  The course assists students in developing effective communication skills and understanding how to work within the legal and ethical parameters in nursing.

Students complete a minimum of 400 hours of mandatory clinical placement in a range of healthcare settings across metropolitan, regional and rural areas.   After successful completion of the Diploma of Nursing – which is currently a FREE TAFE course – students may have the option of applying to universities and being granted up to 12 months credit towards most 3-year Bachelor of Nursing qualifications.  Box Hill Institute has specific articulation arrangements with ACU (guaranteed pathway for the top 20 students) and Deakin University, as well as Federation University, and La Trobe University.

Find out more about the Diploma of Nursing at Diploma of Nursing at Box Hill Institute.

Reminder: Maths & Science Prerequisites

The best way to meet the prerequisites requirements for Monash undergraduate courses is for students to undertake them via their VCE or equivalent Year 12 studies.  Without meeting the prerequisite studies at the time university offers are released means a student will not be eligible to be considered for that course.

Monash, however, does accept a range of alternate options if a student does not have the required VCE units or does not meet the study score.  Students may choose to complete at least one of the alternative options listed on the link below before they can access their preferred destination degree.

For example, if a student is interested in Commerce and has not studied Units 3 & 4 Mathematics Methods, they could enter Monash's Business, Arts or Science degree, undertake MTH1010 and then apply to transfer to Commerce.

Find out more about maths and science units that can be completed as alternatives to the VCE prerequisites by visiting Monash Maths & Science Prerequisites.

NOTE: Register for the What does my first year in Science look like? - Discover Monash webinar taking place on Thursday 22 October from 6.00pm – 7.00pm.

Reminder: How to satisfy Subject Prerequisites

Students must satisfy prerequisites to be eligible for selection into a course at UniMelb. These prerequisites are outlined on each course page on Study at Melbourne and in VTAC. Ideally, they do so through their VCE subjects.

However, the University of Melbourne understands that sometimes students do not fulfill these prerequisites.

Students may be able to satisfy subject prerequisites by participating in one of the following tests or programs listed at How to satisfy Subject Prerequisites at UniMelb.

Public Health Degrees in Victoria in 2026

Wikipedia states that public health is "the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting human health through organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities and individuals".  It goes on to say that public health aims to improve the quality of life through prevention and treatment of disease, including mental health.  There are a few dedicated public health degrees offered by Victorian universities, and these are listed below.

Note: Public Health is often offered as a major in Health Science and some Biomedicine degrees.

The University of Melbourne offers a major of Public Health and Epidemiology in its Bachelor of Biomedicine.  For a comprehensive list of all courses offering studies (majors and minors) in public health, including the many other double-degree options, visit VTAC.
