Principal's Report

There is a place for everyone at Beaumaris — and at Beaumaris, everyone can find their place in the world.
Welcome to Term 4!
It is wonderful to welcome our students, staff and families back for Term 4. I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing break and is ready for the final term of the 2026 school year.
During the holidays, our Unit 3-4 students completed their trial exams, an important opportunity to consolidate their learning and prepare for the VCE examinations ahead. The Senior Centre was also open for study, providing our Year 12 students with a dedicated space to continue their preparation. My thanks to Hamish Scully and Melissa Casley for supporting the smooth running of the trial exams, and to all staff who gave their time to supervise. The Principal Team was encouraged to see Year 12 students making good use of the break time to study and continue their exam preparations, while balancing the opportunity to refresh and rejuvenate.
Term 4 brings with it many important milestones, celebrations and opportunities across the college. For our Year 12 students in particular, this term marks the culmination of six years of secondary schooling as they complete their final classes and celebrate their achievements.
For all students, this is an important time to remain focused, make the most of the opportunities ahead and finish the year with purpose. We look forward to a positive and rewarding final term together.
Class of 2026
The Class of 2026 were welcomed back for Term 4 with a community board on the corner of Reserve and Balcombe Roads, extending our best wishes as they entered their final weeks at the college.
On Monday, our Year 12 Waratah House students enjoyed lunch with me in the MCC Pavilion, completing a series of lunches with students from all four Houses. These informal gatherings have provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with our graduating students in a relaxed setting.
Their final celebrations began last Friday evening with Hide and Seek and a Movie Night at the college. This week, students have enjoyed the Senior Sunrise, themed dress-up days and a range of other activities, with celebrations set to culminate tomorrow with the Year 12 Breakfast with families, a whole-school assembly and the traditional signing of uniforms. These activities provide wonderful opportunities for students to celebrate together and create lasting memories.
Alongside these celebrations, our Year 12 students have remained focused on their final academic commitments. Our VCE students have continued their exam preparation, while our VCE Vocational Major students have showcased their achievements through their Portfolio Presentations, demonstrating outstanding professionalism, creativity and dedication. It was a privilege to see students reflect on their learning, celebrate their achievements and share their aspirations for the future. My thanks to everyone who has supported them throughout their journey.
Throughout the week, we have encouraged students to be fully present in each moment – to embrace and enjoy the celebrations, while remaining focused and engaged in their learning.
The Class of 2026 will officially graduate at the MCG on Friday 23 October.
We extend our best wishes to all Year 12 students as they prepare for their final exams, as well as our Year 11 students completing Unit 3–4 subjects.
Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour
It was a pleasure to welcome the 2026 Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour to Beaumaris Secondary College last week, along with champion jockey Craig Williams. Our Year 7 students enjoyed the opportunity to see the iconic Melbourne Cup trophy up close, learn more about its history and significance and hear from Craig about his experiences. An engaging Q&A gave students the chance to ask their own questions, before finishing the visit with photo opportunities with Craig and the Cup. A special thank you to Year 7 student William Peatt, whose initiative and enthusiasm made this memorable visit possible.
Regional Athletics
Congratulations to all students who represented Beaumaris Secondary College at the Regional Athletics Championships last week, with some excellent performances across the board. A special congratulations to Amelie Dixon and Yianni Seretis on qualifying for the State Athletics Championships – a fantastic achievement and a wonderful reflection of their hard work and dedication. For a complete list of results, please check the Our Latest Social Media Posts page of this newsletter.
VCE Music Performance
Our VCE Music students took to the stage last week for their final performance evening, showcasing a range of pieces they have been rehearsing and refining throughout the semester.
For our Year 12 students, the evening provided an important final opportunity to perform before their upcoming performance examinations, which contribute 50 per cent of their overall study score. Our Year 11 students also performed both solo and ensemble pieces, gaining valuable performance experience as they continue their VCE Music studies.
The evening concluded with a heartfelt reflection from Year 12 student Will Bowles, who spoke about what being part of the music program has meant to him throughout his time at Beaumaris Secondary College. It was a wonderful reflection on the opportunities, experiences and connections our music program provides for students.
Congratulations to all students involved and thank you to our Music staff for their ongoing support and guidance.
VCE Media, Arts & Design Exhibition
Congratulations to our students and the Create team on the outstanding Media, Art and Design Exhibition. The exhibition provided an opportunity to showcase the creativity and skills of our emerging artists, designers and creators, while giving families an insight into the work being produced across these learning areas. Thank you to our teaching team for supporting students in bringing their work to exhibition.
Year 10 Safe Partying Workshop
This week, our Year 10 students welcomed youth advocate Sonya Karras for a session focused on making safe, informed and respectful choices as they navigate greater independence. Drawing on real-life experiences and practical examples, Sonya explored topics including safe partying, consent, looking out for friends and making responsible decisions in social situations. Her engaging and relatable approach encouraged students to think about how they can keep themselves and others safe. We thank Sonya for once again sharing her valuable insights with our students.
Community Connections
This week our Year 11 VCE VM students hosted their mentors from the Bayside City Council Community Connections Program for a tour of the college. The visit provided another opportunity for students and mentors to connect, share experiences and continue building the relationships developed through the program.
We were delighted to receive this wonderful feedback from one of the mentors:
“The College is exceptional in so many ways. Students are absolutely terrific, as are all the staff. Couldn't believe the boys cooked the food, made the lemonade and then served us. The food was delicious.
Everyone involved in putting Classroom Connections together is a star. Lots of hard work involved. So worthwhile for both young and old taking part.”
Our second group of Year 9 students also commenced their Community Connections program this week, participating in volunteering opportunities and community projects designed to build social awareness, strengthen community connections and make a positive contribution to the local community.
Odd Socks Day
Our school community came together yesterday to celebrate Odd Socks Day, raising awareness of mental health and encouraging open conversations about wellbeing. Students enjoyed a range of lunchtime activities and had the opportunity to connect with representatives from headspace, Toolbox Education, GROW Australia and Bayside Youth Services. Together, we raised approximately $783 to support our Get Growing wellbeing group initiatives. Thank you to Rachel Felmingham and the Wellbeing Team for organising the day and to everyone who participated in this important initiative.
School for Student Leadership – Alpine School Campus
Last Sunday, four of our Year 9 students - Lachlan Page, Sasha Stainforth, Raph Steinburger and Sam Turner - began their eight-week journey at the School for Student Leadership’s Alpine School Campus. Over the coming weeks, they will have the opportunity to develop and strengthen their leadership, independence and teamwork skills through a range of new experiences and challenges. We wish them every success and look forward to hearing about their experiences when they return.
Looking Ahead
We look forward to welcoming our 2027 Year 7 families to the college for their Information Evening tonight and wish everyone attending the Parents’ Association Ladies’ Lunch on Saturday a wonderful afternoon.
