Deputy Principal's Message

Darren Gibson

(Deputy Principal: Wellbeing & Organisation)

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to another exciting term at Mother Teresa.

We are pleased to share that the school has recently invested in a range of new sporting equipment to enhance outdoor play during recess and lunchtime. This equipment has been thoughtfully selected with student safety in mind, ensuring it is age-appropriate and suitable for use in busy, shared spaces such as the football oval, where multiple games often take place at the same time. Equipment will be allocated to specific play areas to support safe and organised use.

Our Year 6 Sports Leaders will play an important role in supporting this initiative. They will assist with the distribution and collection of equipment, ensuring it is returned and stored correctly at the end of each break. They will also help promote positive habits by sharing clear expectations with students (both at assembly and within classrooms) about caring for and respecting our shared resources. A key message for all students is simple: if you take equipment to play, it is your responsibility to return it. Sports Leaders will also work with staff and cohorts of students to identify and purchase sporting equipment in the near future to further enhance our active play during break times.

Through the provision and use of this equipment, we will be explicitly teaching the following PBL values and expected behaviours:

Respect - I share equipment

Safety - I use equipment appropriately

As part of this approach, we are moving towards students no longer bringing sporting equipment from home. This will help us ensure that all equipment used at school meets safety requirements and is appropriate for our playground environment. We appreciate your support in reinforcing this message at home as we work together to create a safe, inclusive and enjoyable play experience for all students.
