News from the Art Room

This term in Visual Arts, students will embark on an exciting creative journey that connects art, geography, and the Commonwealth Games.

Drawing inspiration from the diversity of Commonwealth nations, students will explore how artists use colour, pattern, symbols, and cultural traditions to tell stories about people and places. Through a range of hands-on activities, they will investigate the geography of different countries, learning about landscapes, landmarks and cultural identities while developing their artistic skills.

Students will create artworks influenced by the spirit of the Commonwealth Games, celebrating themes of unity, teamwork, respect, and excellence. They will experiment with a variety of materials and techniques to design and create artworks that reflect the unique characteristics of countries across the Commonwealth.

Students will continue to build their confidence in drawing, painting, collage, textiles and mixed media while developing an appreciation for the rich diversity of cultures represented across the Commonwealth. We look forward to sharing their imaginative creations with our school community as they discover how art can connect people, places, and ideas from around the world.

In addition to this, our Visual Arts program will celebrate the magic of storytelling through art as we embrace Book Week 2026 and this year's theme, Symphony of Stories.

Students will explore how illustrations bring stories to life and discover the important role artists play in creating characters, settings, and emotions within books. Inspired by a range of literature, they will experiment with drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, and mixed media to create artworks that reflect their own interpretations of stories.

The theme Symphony of Stories encourages students to think about how stories, like music, can inspire imagination, evoke emotions, and connect people from different backgrounds. Through creative projects, students will explore visual storytelling, rhythm, movement, colour, and pattern, expressing their ideas in unique and imaginative ways.

We are excited to be working towards our school production in a few weeks, with final sets and props being finalised.
