Principals' Message 

Hello Parents and Friends,

As you will read below, we have had a very productive and successful time at TPPS over the last couple of weeks.  Our school is humming along extremely well and this was brought to light on our Review Day last Friday.  Yesterday, we held our annual House Athletics.  We all had a fantastic day and you can read more about it and see the photos in our Learning @ TPPS section of the newsletter.  Additionally, our Grade 5/6 students participated in Hoop Time basketball on Monday.  We had a wonderful day and 3 of our teams were champions.  Congratulations to all of our ballers! 

Next Friday, our students will not attend school as we learn about the Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Support program (SWPBS) that we are introducing at TPPS, and investigate digital assessment tools.  Please see the article below if you need to book into TeamKids for care.  

2026 School Review 

Last Friday we held our School Review. Every Government school in Victoria participates in a School Review every four years.  The review allows us to measure our progress against the current School Strategic Plan (SSP) and design a new SSP for the following four years. While we undertook a one-day Review Day on Friday, we have been working diligently throughout the year to prepare.  Two major pieces of work needed to be completed before our Review Day included the following. 

1. Minimum Standards and School Registration Assessment – All schools must be registered with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) and must comply with the Minimum Standards and other requirements for school registration (including the Child Safe Standards) to obtain and maintain their registration. Throughout the year, the school completed an extensive report with supporting policies, curriculum plans, child safety processes and much more.  We worked closely with a Senior Advisor from School Compliance to complete the assessment and show that our school meets the extensive requirements for school registration.   

    

2. Pre-Review Self-Evaluation (PRSE) – The PRSE is a core component of the 4-year school review cycle where our school analyses our data, evaluates past performance, and assesses practices against the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO 2.0) before the School Review.  We worked on this report throughout Term 2. 

    

Last Friday, we were joined by our official school reviewer, the Senior Education Improvement Leader (SEIL), two challenge partners and our School Council President, Shalina Navaratnam.  The day commenced with a parent forum where community members provided feedback to the review panel.  Three other panels were held throughout the day with students, Educational Support Staff (ESS) and teachers.  Classroom observations were undertaken in Maths and Literacy as the panel reviewed our teaching and learning practices.  After this very busy morning, it was time to review the school’s current strengths and areas for development.  With such rich data from the PRSE, student performance and wellbeing data sets over the last four years, feedback from forum groups and observations, the review panel had a clear understanding of the work that our school needs to undertake over the next four years. 

The feedback we received from the review panel was excellent.  Academically, we are outperforming similar schools in all areas in NAPLAN.  This is so pleasing with the extensive work that the school and students have undertaken with the introduction of our new teaching methods based on the Victorian Teaching & Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0).  Our highly successful wellbeing initiatives are continuing and the rich sporting, creative and academic opportunities we provide our students are exceptional. We have so much to celebrate, yet we are working hard to keep on improving our school and develop our areas of need. We would like to thank Shalina Navaratnam for her exceptional leadership of our School Council, students, staff and our whole community for their hard work and commitment to our school.  A school community like ours does not happen by accident. 

Templestowe Park is turning 50!

2027 will be a huge year at TPPS as our school is turning 50! We are looking forward to celebrating this milestone and we will be putting together a committee of staff, parents and students to organise our celebration.  Please keep an eye out next week for a Google Form on Compass to express your interest in joining the 50th birthday planning committee. 

2026 Parent / Carer Opinion Survey – Open until 18th September

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation. Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies. 

The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Wednesday 19 August to Friday 18 September 2026.

All families are invited to participate in the survey. The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

As 2026 is our School Review year, we ask that all families complete the survey to provide us with important feedback.

Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) Update 

This week, the Department of Education was informed by the Australian Education Union (AEU) that its members voted in support of the revised Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) offer made on Monday 10 August 2026.

This means the department and the AEU have now reached an in-principle agreement.

As a result, the AEU has advised that all planned industrial action will now cease.  There will be no more stop work action. 

The department will now facilitate formal voting on the agreement for all Victorian Government teaching service employees. 

Prep 2027 enrolment offers now made

Enrolment offers have been sent to prospective Prep 2027 families.  These offers need to be accepted by Friday 28 August. We ask that parents accept or decline these offers ASAP so we can ascertain our Prep intake for 2027. 

If you have not submitted your enrolment for Prep 2027, the portal is still open.  Families can click here to submit their digital enrolment.  To find out more about Prep 2027 at TPPS please click here.

The enrolment process and timeline for Prep 2027 is outlined below. 

• Please contact our school office on 9846 2700 to book a school tour with our Principal or Assistant Principals.
• Digital enrolments for Prep 2027 opened on Monday 20 April 2026.  Please click here to submit your digital enrolment.
• You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 3 August and Friday 14 August 2026. If you receive an enrolment offer, you should accept the offer by Friday 28 August 2026. Please note – all in zone student enrolments are guaranteed acceptance. 
• We will invite families who have accepted their offer to participate in our Prep 2027 Transition programs.
• Prep students will commence school on Friday 29 January 2027.

PFA Father's Day & Special Person Stall - Tuesday 1 September

Our sensational PFA are hosting their annual Father’s Day & Special Person Stall on Tuesday 1 September.  Please set the date in your calendar so our students can purchase an unforgettable gift. This is a real highlight of our year and we thank the PFA for hosting such a great stall for our students every year.

Book Week Dress Up Day! 

We are so excited to be celebrating Book Week at TPPS from Monday 24 - Friday 28 of August.  

On Thursday 27 of August all students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character for our special Book Week Dress Up Day!

We will be hosting a parade of all students at 9:10am and we invite our community to join us for this special event.

As part of our Book Week celebrations, the PFA have organised for TPPS to participate in the ‘Great Book Swap’ to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. This is a phenomenal cause to support and helps raise the profile of reading for pleasure even more within our community. The Great Book Swap will happen on Thursday 27 August; the same day as our Book Week Dress Up Day.  To learn more about the ‘Great Book Swap’, please see the PFA section of this newsletter. 

Term 3 Sushi Day!

We are very happy to inform you that another Sushi Day will take place on Wednesday 2 September. 

The following Sushi will be available: 

·        Tuna Sushi $5.40

·        Chicken Sushi $5.40

·        Avocado Sushi $5.20

·        Cucumber Sushi $5.00

Each roll comes with one Soy Sauce. Any additional sauces are 40 cents.

All cash orders are to be sent to the canteen by Monday 31 August 9.00am.  Please do not send orders to the office.

No order requests will be accepted after these times.

REMINDER - Student Free Day – Friday 28 August 

A student free day will take place on Friday 28 August. On this day, all staff will be undertaking professional learning about the Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Support program (SWPBS) that we are implementing later in 2026. We will also be undertaking professional learning on the Digital Assessment Library from the Department of Education.

Principals' Award

At our assembly last week, we presented Mark Y with the Principals' Award.  Mark always brings a positive attitude to school and tries his absolute best in everything he does! He is respectful, focused, hardworking and always approaches his learning with enthusiasm. In Literacy, he wrote an interesting and entertaining story about Bigfoot. It really demonstrated how much his writing has grown this year! Mark’s love for sport is also fantastic. Whether he is racing at the School Swimming Carnival or playing his best at Interschool Sports, he always gets involved. 

Even better, Mark is always there to cheer on and support his teammates. Mark is a kind, caring and helpful member of Grade 5 and a wonderful friend to everyone. Because of his great attitude, excellent behaviour and hard work, he is an amazing role model for our school.

Awesome job on a fantastic achievement, Mark!
