Principal's message

Dear Clovelly Park Primary School Community,

As we are between terms 3 & 4, I want to reflect on a very busy and productive Term 3, and take a moment to acknowledge all that has taken place across our site, appreciating the extraordinary efforts of our students and staff.

Term 3 is always a significant term in the life of a school, and this year has been no exception. It has been filled with our core business of rich teaching & learning experiences, assessment & reporting, whole-school events – assemblies & Sports Day, extra-curricular opportunities – e.g. CHOIR, student, staff and family wellbeing initiatives – like our R U OK Day parent morning tea and break time activities for students, and the many day-to-day moments that make a primary school such a vibrant and important place. Throughout it all, I have been incredibly proud of the way our staff and students have approached a heavy workload with commitment, positivity and kindness.

Our staff have continued to provide high-quality learning experiences, support individual student needs, and create classrooms where every child feels known, valued and encouraged to do their best. Their professionalism, care and dedication do not go unnoticed. I am deeply grateful for the energy they bring each day and for the positive relationships they build with students and families.

I have also been so proud of our students. Across the term, they have shown that even when learning becomes challenging, they are capable of persevering, adapting and continuing to grow. Primary school is a time of enormous development, and every year level brings important milestones. These include learning to read with increasing fluency, developing confidence as writers, strengthening numeracy understanding, learning to work collaboratively, building friendships, managing emotions, becoming more independent, solving problems, asking thoughtful questions and learning how to contribute positively to a community. These are significant achievements, and they are the foundation for future success in school and in life.

Importantly, primary education is not only about academic growth. It is also about developing the dispositions and capabilities that help children flourish as learners and as people. Throughout Term 3, our students have continued to build important dispositions such as resilience, persistence, curiosity, empathy, responsibility and kindness – aligning well to our 5 values. They have been learning that mistakes are part of learning, that effort matters, that challenges help us grow, and that the way we treat others is just as important as the work we produce.

These qualities are closely connected to the capabilities we foster through the South Australian Curriculum, including literacy, numeracy, critical and creative thinking, personal and social capabilities, ethical understanding and intercultural understanding. In our classrooms and across the school, students are learning not only what to think about, but how to think, how to work with others, how to make responsible choices and how to engage respectfully with the world around them. These capabilities are essential for young people as they grow into active, thoughtful and capable members of their communities.

Of course, there are times during the primary years when things feel hard. Learning new concepts, navigating friendships, managing emotions, trying again after setbacks and stepping outside of comfort zones can all be challenging. These moments are a normal and important part of development. What matters most is that students learn to persevere through those challenges, seek support when needed and continue moving forward. It has been wonderful to see so many of our students doing exactly that this term.

As we look ahead to Term 4, there is much to be excited about. We have many wonderful opportunities still to come, and we look forward to finishing the year with strong learning, positive connections and continued growth for every student. Term 4 is always a special time as we celebrate progress, recognise achievements and prepare students for their next stage of learning.

We are also already looking forward to another year of the very important work of primary education — helping children build strong foundations academically, socially and emotionally. The primary years are critical in shaping confident learners, compassionate classmates and capable young people, and we value the trust families place in us to support their children through this important stage. We want to continue to build our connections with family, so that we can work as an effective team for your child’s education.

Thank you to our staff for their ongoing dedication, to our students for their effort and positive spirit, and to our families for your partnership and support. Together, we continue to create a school community where students can learn, grow and thrive.

We hope that all families have had a safe and restful break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back for an exciting Term 4.

Warm regards,

Kylie Tuckey
