English Week

The week beginning 18 August saw Lumen Christi College come alive with the joy of storytelling and creativity as we celebrated English Week, coinciding beautifully with the CBCA Children’s Book Week. The campus buzzed with energy, imagination, and a shared love of words as students and staff alike immersed themselves in a vibrant program of events.
Festivities began on Monday with the much-loved whole school dress-up day. Characters leapt off the page and into the school grounds, from classic heroes and fairytale figures to contemporary icons of literature, creating a dazzling parade of genres. Laughter and colour filled the air as the spirit of reading came to life.
Every morning, homerooms took part in the Amazing Book Race, a lively literary quiz that tested knowledge, sparked healthy competition, and celebrated a wide range of books. On Tuesday, the Amazing Book Swap invited staff and students to trade their favourite reads. It was heartening to see conversations flowing as people discovered new stories while sharing beloved ones, reminding us of the joy of reading as a communal experience.
Thursday brought the highlight of the week: Write a Book in a Day. Teams of students worked under gruelling time pressures to brainstorm, draft, and complete original stories. The creativity, collaboration, and sheer determination on display were nothing short of phenomenal, proving once again the boundless imagination of our students.
English Week 2025 was more than a celebration of books, it was a celebration of community, creativity, and the enduring power of stories.
