From Lumen Christi College to Regional Health Advisor – Africa
Introducing Erin Law (Class of 2001)
Erin Law, a proud graduate of Lumen Christi College's Class of 2001, has built a remarkable career in humanitarian aid and global health. With over 15 years of experience across Africa, Asia, and the Americas, Erin now serves as Regional Health Advisor for Africa with the Red Cross and Red Crescent, based in Nairobi.
A Journey of Learning and Growth
Erin's path began with early humanitarian work in Bangladesh and South Sudan, sparking a deep commitment to sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR). She pursued further education with a Master of International Health from Curtin University, a Master of Nursing from the University of Sydney, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery.
Her career has taken her across continents, from outbreak response in the Caribbean to sexual health initiatives along the Zambezi River. Erin has been deployed to support communities during floods in Malawi and Mozambique and hurricanes in the Bahamas. Today, she works across nine African nations, including Niger, Somalia, and Zimbabwe, tackling maternal and child health challenges and responding to cholera outbreaks in conflict-affected regions.
Career Highlights
Among Erin's standout achievements are her innovative collaborations with wrestling teams in South Sudan to promote maternal health, and her work with religious and traditional leaders in Ethiopia to eliminate female genital mutilation. She continues to lead efforts to improve healthcare quality in some of the world's most complex settings.
"I'm really proud to have been working in the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement," Erin shares. "Things can seem very hopeless and difficult in the world right now for many people, but this work has made me feel less hopeless and more inclined to believe in the power of humanity."
From Lumen Christi College to the frontlines of global health, Erin Law's journey is a powerful testament to compassion, resilience, and the belief that communities can shape their own solutions. Her work continues to inspire hope and change across the African continent.
