Yearbook

Staff are currently in the final design phase for the school yearbook. As photo permissions are signed at the beginning of the school year, some parents have requested that their child be permitted to appear in the yearbook if prior consent was not granted. As the yearbook is a wonderful celebration of the year, all students will be included unless parents write to the school requesting that they do not appear.

If you DO NOT wish for your child to appear in the yearbook, including their class page, community and school events, please write to the school with this request at solway.ps@education.vic.gov.au by Friday, October 27th. Please put “Yearbook photo permission” in the subject line.

Community photos

If you have any photos that can be included in the community/fundraising section please forward to emilly.rose@education.vic.gov.au  please ensure you have permission from all those in the photo prior to sending.

Traffic Safety and car parking in the streets around Solway

Parents are reminded to take great care when driving around the school at pick-up and drop-off times. In addition, please take care when taking off from parking. There have a number of near misses of secondary students (who are on the road rather than footpaths) riding their bikes home from school, particularly on Karnak Road and Taylor Street. Parents are asked to take great care when driving around the streets, especially during drop-off and pick-up times. I appreciate your consideration of this.

End of Year

Over the past 18 months, the Department of Education has implemented time in lieu to recognise teachers for their work beyond the school day, including time spent away at camp. Our teachers have taken time throughout the year, and like last year we will be using the last few days of the school year to cover off on time in lieu. Due to this the end of the school year program will finish on Friday 15 December at 3:30pm. The final assembly will take place at 3:00pm, concluding with the traditional Guard of Honour for our graduating Year 6 students.

Whilst the school will be open on Monday 18 – Wednesday 20 (1:30pm) December for supervision for students who are unable to be cared for, this will be in multi-age settings and not be with the usual class teacher. TeamKids will run an after-school program from 1:30pm-6:00pm on Wednesday 20 December and will offer a program on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 December.

Hats!

Please remind your child to bring their hat to school. School hats are available for purchase at our School Uniform Shop. If your child does not have a hat, they will be asked to go and sit in the shade at recess and lunchtime, so that they are protected from the sun. If you can support them to ensure that they have a hat each day, you will then know that they will happily have access to all areas of our lovely school grounds for all play times.

Congratulations!

Jude in Prep has been cast as 'Tam' in Opera Australia's Melbourne production of Miss Saigon at Her Majesty's Theatre. Congratulations Jude on your achievement and we hope you enjoy this wonderful experience and love being part of  the cast for this fantastic production.

Parent social event

A big thank you to the parents who organised the Parent Social event at the RSL on Saturday 7 October.  This event was very well attended, and a great time was had by all. A special mention to the following people for their work: Lucinda Brockfield, Libby Green, Jess Symmons, Phillipa Waters and Jane Skanthalingham. These great events would not go ahead without a team to bring them together.

Solway Community

Our thoughts at this difficult time are with the O’Byrne family.  Will has been in hospital since last term for treatment for a medical condition and is currently in ICU.  Many parents have contacted the school asking how they can support the family.  Will's current treatment plan requires him to undertake blood transfusions and as you may have seen in the news, there is a shortage of platelets in Victoria. If you are eligible to donate blood, you are urged to do so ASAP. Especially if you are 'o positive'. Please click the link below for more information and how to registerhttps://www.lifeblood.com.au/blood

Thank you to those who have already reached out and offered your assistance. Solway has a fantastic community I am proud to be a part of.
