5/6 Market Day

WOW! What a success our very first Market Day was at Mitcham Primary School! This event was the culmination of weeks of hard work in our Humanities Unit on Economics & Business. Becoming entrepreneurs was an exciting challenge, one that certainly came with plenty of effort. And yes, us teachers thought it would be a brilliant idea to launch it all during a production year… which made things even more hectic! But honestly, we wouldn’t have had it any other way. Our 5/6 students were determined to make this day shine and hopefully, start a tradition for years to come.
When the big day finally arrived, we were ready (well… mostly!). There were certainly moments of doubt and some last-minute changes but the excitement in the air was undeniable on a beautiful spring day at MPS. All we needed were customers.. and the Mitcham community absolutely delivered! We would be remiss not to thank all of the families who sent along coins to support the incredible items, experiences, and prizes on offer. Your generosity meant the world to us.
And now… the moment you’ve been waiting for… The total money raised by our amazing Mitcham community...The first ever 5/6 Market Day raised an incredible $2508!We were blown away by this total. As a cohort, we carefully selected several worthy charities to share the funds with and we hope you agree with our choices:
- The Kids’ Cancer Project — $1,508
- State Schools’ Relief — $500
- Courage to Care — $500
Once again, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire Mitcham community for your wonderful support. We also congratulate all of our 5/6 students for their commitment, creativity, and entrepreneurship. And of course, a huge thank you to our 5/6 families—we know our students couldn’t have done this without you and the time and effort you put in made this a truly memorable moment in your child’s primary school experience.
Kind regards,
Nathan Percy
