Year 10 Performing Arts Electives

Creating Futures Together

ELECTIVES

Students can choose a MAXIMUM of two electives from this Learning Area.

MUSIC PERFORMANCE

Course Description:

Love music? Want to build your skills as a performer and creative musician? Curious about whether Music could be part of your future?

Music Performance is for students who enjoy playing, performing or creating music and want to take their skills further. You do not need to have completed Year 9 Music to choose this subject. If you are learning an instrument or voice, enjoy playing music, working with others, or simply want to grow as a musician, this subject will help you build confidence and take the next step.

Students will develop their skills through practical music-making, rehearsal and performance. They will work as soloists and/or as part of a group, explore a range of musical styles, and build the technique, expression and confidence needed to perform music effectively.

Students will also experiment with composition skills and develop the musical understanding needed for senior Music, including practical musicianship, aural skills, listening, analysis and reflection. They will learn how musicians use musical elements to create meaning, emotion and impact.

This subject is recommended for students who may be considering VCE Music Performance in Year 11, as well as students who want to become more confident, capable and independent musicians. Students do not need to be “expert” musicians, but they should be willing to practise, collaborate, experiment, receive feedback and keep improving.
