Dear Wollert Primary School Families,

Thank You for the Week!

Firstly, I would like to thank all the mothers and special individuals who attended the Women of Wollert Breakfast on Wednesday, 6 May. It was lovely to see the coffees flowing, pancakes on offer, and students celebrating their loved ones. It was also wonderful to see mothers having the opportunity to eat before their children — a special treat!

Thank you to all the staff who supported the morning and helped make the event such a success. We also held our Mother’s Day stall, where parent volunteers assisted students in purchasing little gifts for their special people. A special thank you to these volunteers from Team Wollert.

Kellie Rainbow (Parent of Blake)

Penny Sidiropoulos (Parent of Apollo and Katrina)

Laura Vidot (Parent of Alexis, Ayla and Harlow)

Tina Kapodistrias (Parent of Ryker)

Anita Balasundaran (Parent of Zaylan)

Salwa Omer (Parent of Mohammad, Abdurrazzaq and Abdullah)

I would also like to acknowledge the volunteers who supported the Mother's Day raffle and assisted in organising the lovely gifts. We appreciate both the volunteers and hours spent sourcing and creating our raffle prizes.

If you would like to volunteer and support Wollert Primary School or get involved with our Parent and Friends Association, please contact the main office at 9002 0500 or email wollert.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

More events for the week can be found in our community news. We have a Family Time event on Thursday, 14 May, right after school, and our Colour Fun Run on Friday, which should be a blast for the community! We look forward to adding colour across the school and hopefully a couple of fun slime moments for the staff.

It's important to note that all fundraising this year will go toward an inclusive playground. We are looking to publish the running total shortly, as we have had several events recently. We look forward to celebrating this figure and getting closer to our goal of this playground. I know that student leadership will love giving ideas during the design phase.

Potential AEU Half Days Stop Work Action- Tuesday, 19th of May

As communicated in a recent Compass newsfeed, we are currently awaiting updates regarding the half-day stop work action planned by members of the Australian Education Union (AEU) on Tuesday, May 19th. Please note that the AEU has postponed this action in the past two weeks across the State. We expect to receive further communication from both the Department of Education and the AEU when the pause on the stop work action concludes on Monday.

It is important to highlight that a significant percentage of our staff are AEU members, which may impact normal school operations if the action goes ahead. We will keep you informed as more information becomes available. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.

Education Week 2026

Education Week 2026 aligns well with what is happening at Wollert, as the Education Week in Victoria is scheduled for 18–22 May 2026. The theme is "Showcase Your School," which encourages communities to highlight unique learning, people, and places.

It includes celebrating and holding open days/ afternoons, whch occurred in Term 1 at WPS, special assemblies, and recognising staff and volunteers, as noted above.

I would also like to take a moment to recognise our staff, especially since this Saturday, May 16, is Education Support Staff Day. We have an exceptional group of Education Support Staff at Wollert Primary School. These dedicated educators play a vital role in our school and do incredible work with both our students and teachers. Thank you to all our Education Support Staff at Wollert PS, led by Lisa Lewis, for your hard work and commitment to our students every day.

Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) for Years 4-6

“Your School, Your Say”

This is just a reminder that our Year 4-6 students are currently completing the Attitudes to School Survey for our Year 4-6 students and will conclude on Friday, 29 May. This survey allows our young people to have a say about their education and school.

This survey has been running for nearly 20 years and helps schools plan programs and activities to improve your child's engagement with school, their wellbeing, and their learning.

Please note that we are not “testing” your child:

- Students can choose whether they want to participate

- They can skip questions they don’t wish to answer

- They can stop taking the survey at any time

There are different versions of the survey to accommodate all students

- The survey will take around 20-40 minutes to complete.

Coaching and Peer Observations at Wollert PS

Be the Best Educator for Your Child

I wanted to update the community that as we strive for improvement in our philosophy of being the best leaders and educators we can be for our children, we have literacy and numeracy coaching occurring through team teaching in our classrooms. Our coaches, Tien Vo (Literacy Teaching) Elisa Pannunzio (Numeracy Teaching), and Callum Mackenzie with a focus on wellbeing.

Teachers are also conducting peer observations on exemplary teaching practices with our Learning Specialists, Ashley Tilley, Jessica Biggs, and Jayden Jukes. Teachers will visit their classrooms to observe teaching strategies and approaches to continue evolving their practices and improving — The Wollert Way reflects our staff's commitment to continuous improvement.

Please Get Your 2027 Foundation Enrolment Forms In!

Enrolments for Foundation (Prep) 2027 are now open. Parents are invited to complete their child's enrolment at the school office. To do this, please fill out the school enrolment form and provide proof of your child's date of birth as well as their immunisation record. Once the enrolment process is complete, new students will be added to the register for the 2027 classes.

For planning purposes, we kindly ask that parents finalise enrolments by the end of this term. If you have any questions or need clarification, please reach out. If you would like a school tour, please don't hesitate to reach out as we would love to show you around and showcase what Wollert PS has to offer.
