PRAYER

The feast of Corpus Christi (the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ) is celebrated two weeks after Pentecost Sunday.  For the 2025 Liturgical Calendar that was last Sunday, June 22nd.  This feast is a great reminder of the gift we receive at Mass each Sunday in Holy Communion.

This day honors that Jesus Christ is really, truly and substantially present under the appearances of bread and wine. This Presence happens through the change which the Church calls transubstantiation “change of substance”, when at the Consecration of the Mass, the priest says the words which Christ Himself pronounced over bread and wine, “This is My Body,” “This is the chalice of My Blood,” “Do this in remembrance of Me.”

The prayer below acknowledges the importance of Sunday Mass and asks for God's help in making it a priority in our lives:

Come Holy Spirit,

Enter my heart so that I may know

The importance of attending Mass on Sundays

Open my mind to your word

Open my eyes to what I will see

And open my ears to what I will hear.

Guide me to your table.

I ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
