District Swimming Carnival

The Interschool sport calendar kicked off on Thursday, 19 February with the Rowville District School Sports Association District Swimming Carnival at Croydon Memorial Pool. We had record numbers of students interested in trying out for the Park Ridge team this year, which made it more competitive than ever to earn a spot on the team. All students should be congratulated on how they conducted themselves throughout the try out process. I would also like to thank the parents for transporting their children to and from our before school training session in the lead up to the district event. We are proving to have quite a talented group of swimmers at the moment, with our school finishing in 2nd place for the third year in a row, finishing just 2 points behind first place, they’re calling this the closest finish on record in PE circles around the country. All members of the team should be congratulated on this outstanding achievement! Highlights from the day include:

 

Open Mixed 4 x 50m Medley team featuring Logan R (Backstroke), Robbie K (Breaststroke), Sophia K (Butterfly) and Zach P (Freestyle) – 1st place with a new school record of 2:43.54

 

Sophia K – 1st place in Freestyle, breaking her older sister’s school record with a time of 36.87 seconds, 1st in Breaststroke, and 1st Butterfly, once again breaking her sister’s school record with a time of 44.15 seconds. Sophia also broke the Backstroke school record at our trials with a time of 39.5 seconds. 

 

Robbie K - 1st place in Freestyle with a new school record 35.01 seconds, 1st in Breaststroke with a new school record of 43.16 seconds and 1st Butterfly, breaking the school record with a time of 41.83 seconds. Robbie also broke the Backstroke school record at our trials with a time of 43.81 seconds. Robbie now holds all 4 individual records in the Under 11 and 12 Boys age group.

 

Logan R – 1st place in Freestyle, beating his own school record with a time of 37.1 seconds. 1st place in backstroke, also breaking his own school record with a time of 42.08 seconds, and 1st in Butterfly, once again breaking his old school record with a time of 46.89

 

Josh K - 2nd place in Breaststroke and 1st place in B Freestyle

 

Zach P – 2nd place in Backstroke and 1st place in B Freestyle

 

Henry S – 1st place in B Backstroke

 

Ryan J – 1st place in B Backstroke

 

Miranda K – 2nd place in Breaststroke

 

Will J – 1st place in Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly

 

Under 10 Boys 4 x 50m Freestyle relay team featuring Josh K, Henry S, Jay B and Logan R – 2nd place with a new school record of 3:13.18

Under 11 Boys 4 x 50m Freestyle relay team featuring Jude D, Caelan G, Ryan Q and Tony Z – 2nd place

Under 11 Girls 4 x 50m Freestyle relay team featuring Jacinta L, Mackenzie D, Indie T and Sophia K – 1st place with a new school record of 3:02.77

Under 12 Boys 4 x 50m Freestyle relay team featuring Zach P, Will J, Lucas H and Robbie K – 2nd place

 

Good luck to all swimmers who have qualified for the Knox Division finals on Tuesday, 10 March.
