Welcome to Year Two!
Our Learning Journey Begins…
We have had a wonderful start to the term and the classroom has been buzzing with excitement for learning. The students are showing great enthusiasm, kindness and curiosity as they work together, try new challenges and grow in confidence each day. We are looking forward to sharing some of the fantastic learning experiences happening in our classroom over the coming weeks.
English
In English, Year Two has been working hard during our InitiaLit lessons, focusing on building our spelling skills and learning to recognise and use tricky words with confidence. We have been doing lots of reading, practising our fluency by reading smoothly, clearly and with expression. As a class, we have been enjoying The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson, exploring the characters and their adventure together. Using our imagination, we have also been writing about “what happens next” in the story, creating our own exciting continuations and sharing our ideas with the class.
Julia Donaldson is a fabulous author!
Have you got any of her books at home?

Maths
In Mathematics, Year Two has been exploring the topic of Representing Whole Numbers. Students have been learning to read, write, model and order two and three-digit numbers. We have been practising grouping numbers into hundreds, tens and ones, using materials such as base-ten blocks to deepen our understanding of place value and the role of zero.
Tips for parents at home:
* Ask your child to read and write numbers they see in everyday life (house numbers, prices, page numbers).
* Practise counting forwards and backwards from different starting points (not just from zero).
* Use small collections of objects (e.g. pasta, Lego, coins) to group into tens and ones and talk about how many altogether.
* Play simple number games such as ordering playing cards from smallest to largest.
These small, regular conversations about numbers help strengthen place value understanding and build confidence.
Religion
On Shrove Tuesday, our Year One and Year Two students came together to share a delicious pancake celebration. The children enjoyed their pancakes with tasty toppings as we reflected on the meaning of this special day in the Church calendar. We spoke about how Shrove Tuesday is a time to gather, give thanks and prepare our hearts for the season of Lent. It was a delicious and meaningful experience that helped us begin our Lenten journey with grateful hearts.
A very special thanks goes to Mrs Baldry for buying and preparing the pancakes for us all!
