Camp Program
A couple of weeks agao I had the absolute pleasure of accompanying the Year 6 students to Camp Wilkin (Anglesea). Camp Wilkin is a new camp this year for our Year 6 students and involved activities such as surfing, body boarding and stand up paddle boarding.
This is the first camp that will go out this year and is part of a rich and exciting camp program.
Camps are a wonderful learning opportunity for our students, helping them to develop a range of skills including: persistence, resilience, confidence, cooperation, team work, safe risk taking, independence and social skills. Our students are challenged in activities that we are not able to offer them at school.
In addition to the great experience we have had with the Year 6 students, our students also have the following opportunities:
Year 4 - Camp to Arrabri Lodge
Year 5 - Trip to Sovereign Hill (Ballarat) - attending the 1850s school program
Year 5 and 6 - Human Powered Racing Team (optional program for interested students), with several events across the year
Year 6 - Ski Camp to Mount Buller
Year 6 - Trip to Northern Territory visiting the Yipirinya Indigenous School (optional program for interested students)
Whole School - Interschool Ski Competition
None of these programs could run without the support of our staff and parents. On the Year 6 camp for example we had four staff members and two parents volunteer their time to support our students, thank you to Parents: Lilly Fletcher and Kate Desmond Staff: Jess Worboys, James Prantzos and Ben Parker for their company and dedication to our students in an exhausting yet exhilarating camp.
We look forward to implementing the rest of our program throughout the year.
The Year 6 students will share some of their experiences and reflections next newsletter.
