Devotion

Welcome back to the 2026 school year. Good Shepherd Lutheran School and Church are named after the Good Shepherd – Jesus.  Throughout John Chapter 10, Jesus talks about how he is a shepherd and how he looks after the sheep.

John 10:11

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

John 10:27 & 28a

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

I give them eternal life.

This second reading is our school foundation stone for the administration building that was opened 44 years ago.

This means when they had a special service to open the building, the Pastor and Principal would have talked about how Jesus is our Good Shepherd.  I think it is great that we are still talking about Jesus and what he has done, is doing and what he will do in the future for us!

We hear his voice through the Bible – God’s word and learn to be more like our Shepherd Jesus, how he shows Love, Optimism (hope) and Creativity through the way that he cares for people throughout the Bible.

May throughout this term and all of 2026 you know the reality of what Psalm 23 says.

Psalm 23:1- 6

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul.

He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
