Auslan

Auslan or Australian Sign Language is our other language at Glenroy. At Athletics we had the joy of inviting people to break down signs.

Why? Not to just recreate in pictures, but to build up memory power and to retain memory strength, just like we do in Athletics by physically practicing.

Why does it work?

  • The "Testing Effect": The act of deliberately pulling knowledge out of your brain solidifies the memory, making it much easier to access in the future.

  • Combats the Forgetting Curve: Unlike passive studying, which results in rapid memory loss, a single session of retrieval practice can yield improvements that persist for months, while cumulative sessions can last for years.
