Message from the Principal

This would be a very long newsletter if we tried to show every moment from this term. It has been non-stop from the moment we came back until now, and I know that every single student, family member, and of course our excellent staff deserve the holiday period to stop and refresh over the next two weeks. To share just a few recent moments of Glenroy pride though........
Junior Learning Showcase
Our Junior Learning Showcase was a wonderful celebration of student learning, creativity and growth. The event provided families with the opportunity to visit classrooms, engage with student work and gain insight into the rich learning experiences taking place across Years 7–9. Students took pride in sharing their achievements, explaining their learning journeys and showcasing projects from a range of subject areas.
The afternoon highlighted the importance of strong partnerships between school and home, with families able to see not only what students are learning, but how they are learning. From innovative classroom projects and hands-on activities to displays of student work and presentations, the showcase reflected the curiosity, effort and enthusiasm of our young people. We thank our students for their confidence and commitment, our staff for creating engaging learning opportunities, and our families for their ongoing support and involvement in their children's education.
Big Freeze
The school community once again proudly supported the Big Freeze campaign, raising awareness and funds for vital motor neurone disease (MND) research. This year's event held special significance following the recent passing of Neale Daniher, whose courage, determination and advocacy inspired millions of Australians and transformed the fight against MND. Students and staff enthusiastically participated in a Ice Bucket Challenge, with volunteers bravely taking the plunge for a great cause, while Big Freeze beanies were sold through the General Office. The event not only raised valuable funds but also provided an opportunity for our community to honour Neale's remarkable legacy and demonstrate the generosity and spirit that make our school such a special place.
Athletics Carnival
Our annual Athletics Carnival was held recently at Meadowglen International Athletics Stadium in Epping, marking the first time the event has been hosted at this outstanding venue. The move proved to be a great success, with excellent facilities, smooth organisation and a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day. Students embraced the opportunity to compete, support one another and demonstrate the school values of teamwork, participation and respect.
The staff at Meadowglen were exceptionally complimentary of our students, commenting on their positive behaviour, sportsmanship and engagement across the entire day. Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive and reflected very well on our school community. Competition between the houses was fierce, with strong performances across track and field events. In one of the closest finishes in recent memory, the Blue Sharks narrowly held off the Green Cobras by just six points to claim the
House Athletics Championship. This marks the Blue Sharks' second Athletics Carnival victory in the past two years, cementing their place as a powerhouse of recent athletics competition.
Congratulations to all the students who participated, our student leaders who assisted throughout the day, and the staff who worked tirelessly to ensure the carnival ran smoothly and successfully. I would like to note the immense efforts of Stephanie Radojevic, Joanne Pampanella, Jen Ames, Peta Johnstone and Atila Turda for the mass of ground work that goes into such important cultural events for our school.
Finally, I am sure you are as outraged as I am with the outcome of this year's Athletics Carnival, and I am calling for a full inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the Golden Hornets' result. Many good people are saying there were tremendous crowds, record enthusiasm and some of the finest cheering ever witnessed, yet somehow the Hornets failed to secure victory. Questions must be asked. Until a thorough investigation is completed, the Golden Hornets reserve the right to claim they were the moral winners of the carnival. Nevertheless, we congratulate the Blue Sharks on their victory and look forward to an even bigger contest next year.
