Principal Update

Dear Families, Students and Community Members,

I do hope that this newsletter finds you very well as we move gently into Spring.

Mamma Mia! 

From Wednesday 19th August to Friday 21st August, we rolled out three sold-out performances of Mamma Mia! Students from Year 7 to Year 12 were involved in acting, singing, set design, lighting and sound, and our current Year 12 students also got their big goodbye from their Mordialloc College friends and families. This amazing production was a culmination of months of hard work from staff, alumni, students and families.

A huge thanks really does need to go to Jordy Hine, Bella Kennedy, Claire Bruce, and Braden Grady who went above and beyond, providing our students and  community with a production to remember. I went along to the final performance, and it was a brilliant event that showcased our students’ talents, enthusiasm, and passion for the arts.

Worlds Greatest Shave

On Thursday 27th August, students poured into the PAC to support our young shavers who participated in our World’s Greatest Shave event for 2026.

Our Mordialloc College team for 2026 consisted of 3 staff, and nearly 30 students, who showed up to shave or temporarily colour their hair. In doing so, we smashed our community goal and raised a little over $4,000, all of which will be donated directly back to the wonderful team at the Leukaemia Foundation. 

The World’s Greatest Shave event is organised by the Leukaemia Foundation whose work is pertinent to researching and raising awareness for, and helping those with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other related blood disorders. In Australia, over 5,000 people are diagnosed with leukaemia every single year. Our team had the support of over 200 students, who sat and cheered us as we collectively raised awareness for these diseases.

A huge thank you to all who made this event possible, and to our Mordialloc Community who helped us to reach our fundraising goal.

Parent Teacher Interview Day: 31st August 2026

With over 2531 appointments attended throughout the day, I think we can agree that this was a big hit! A huge thank you to families who were able to join us on-line, we really do recognise the importance of working closely with you to support your child’s every success here at Mordialloc College. 

We did contact families regarding staff absences during the day; if this has created an issue for you as regards you not being able to find out something specific about your child’s progress, please email us on mordialloc.co@education.vic.gov.au with details of your child’s name, subject, normal classroom teacher and query so that we can provide you with some information in this space.

Year 7 2027 

I am really proud to share that we continue to be the school of choice in the area, and we are really looking forward to beginning some wonderful relationships with our next group of Mordialloc College families. Over the upcoming weeks, we will be holding SEAL interviews, and working with primary schools and through data to select our Year 7 2027 classes. We have a wide range of supports to welcome our next cohort of families into our Mordialloc College community; if you have any ideas about how we as a community can further support our new families, please reach out and let me know.

Staff Professional Learning Day

As a school, we have Professional Learning days where all staff work collaboratively on a key improvement area, using research based interventions to further evolve how we deliver on our promise to ensure that Mordialloc College is an even better place to learn.

On 20th August, our focus was Student Services at Mordialloc College: Every Student Seen. Every Student Supported; with both Teaching and Educational Support staff receiving professional learning around Disability Inclusion, Child Safe Procedures, Wellbeing, and Inclusion. With over one hundred members of staff engaging in a full day of Professional Learning, it was great to be involved in such diligently planned, and passionately delivered workshops from key members of our Mordialloc College team.

Key Dates

A reminder that the last day of Term 3 is Friday September 18th and we will finish at 1.30pm.

We return for Term 4 on Monday 5th October.
