Tech Talk

As mentioned in previous Tech Talk articles, screens are not the enemy but when they take up too much of your child’s daily nervous system, specific signs show up. The biggest warning sign isn't how many hours your child spends on a screen. It's how they behave when the screen is gone.

Here are 9 signs telling you it may be time for a screen reset:

  1. Intense meltdowns when it's time to stop. Disappointment is normal. Constant battles are worth noticing.
  2. They lose interest in activities they used to love. Building. Drawing. Reading. Playing outside.
  3. They're constantly bored without entertainment.
  4. They're struggling to wind down or sleep. A calmer bedtime routine may help.
  5. They're unusually irritable after long screen sessions. Sometimes they simply need movement, conversation, or a change of activity.
  6. They barely notice what's happening around them. Healthy technology use still leaves room for real-life connection.
  7. They consistently choose screens over family or friends. Digital entertainment shouldn't replace relationships.
  8. They rarely want to be outdoors anymore. Movement, fresh air, and free play still matter.
  9. They seem happier after spending less time on screens. Sometimes children resist the change...then become calmer, more playful, and more connected.

The goal isn't raising children who never use screens. It's raising children who know life is bigger than the screens.A screen reset isn't about punishment. It's about creating space for conversations, adventures, messy play, quiet moments and memories no app can create.
