Catholic Faith
Last week I attended a retreat with Bishop Elect, Fr Stephen Wang.
It was an amazing experience to spend time with someone who I have looked up to through his work with Sycamore, where you can learn more about the Catholic Faith, in a really invitational way. https://www.sycamore.fm/
He stated that a Catholic School should have Strong Roots and Wide Branches. It is because of our strong Catholic Identity, our Commitment to educating about the faith and Catholic Social Teaching, that we can reach out to people of all backgrounds.
We are proud to welcome people of different faith backgrounds, and I have never had a conversation with a family who wanted to opt out of the Catholic element. It makes us who we are. But people from different faiths add to our fabric.
Community is a prominent theme in the Gospels and right across the Bible.
The community breaks down, then is restored through Jesus, to bring us closer to God. We walk together as a community towards Heaven. Out of Isolation, we come to community. Happiness is about Community.
As we move in our future, with a renovated building, we will have stronger markers of our Catholic faith, a new Religious Education curriculum, but we will be inclusive of all.
Excellence
Two reasons to celebrate. Our DIBELS growth data was excellent. DIBELS is an assessment of reading profiency and we have seen many of our students move bands. This means a student who was at risk, is now at standard. Pleasingly, many of our students are above standard now, which supports our NAPLAN data which had more students exceeding than ever before.
A further sign of Excellence is we will have 16 students represent our school at Divisional Athletics. This is more students than many big schools. It shows that our PE lessons, and Academies are allowing students to flourish. We have extension programs with ART and Reading for our senior students, with former Secondary School Teachers taking our kids to stretch their learning.
We are known for being an incredible wellbeing school, but academic excellence is what our students deserve, whilst maintaining our inclusive environment.
