Dear Families

Today’s Interhouse Cross-Country carnival was a fantastic way to end the week. It was wonderful to see House spirit in action, with strong student participation across both the main race and the novelty events. Congratulations to Loreto House for winning  both the Fr Gaetan Pereira Trophy and the Spirit Award. Thank you to all staff, in particular Ms Jessica Pillera and Mr Darren Kowal, for their exceptional organisation. Well done to all students for their participation and House pride and thank you to the parent volunteers for providing staff with a BBQ lunch.

Thank you to our Years 11 and 12 musicians who performed for residents at yesterday’s annual Mercy Village Wembley concert. The audience loved the variety of engaging and nostalgic pieces by our talented students. Congratulations to Camilla Barbi, Media Captain, Media Club students, the Year 12 Student Representative Council and Mr Rob Di Giallonardo for the launch of the inaugural JTC Live! newscast this week. We look forward to seeing future newscasts on Homeroom screens in the coming weeks as a way of sharing College news – for students, by students. All the best to our rowers for their first regatta of the IGSSA season tomorrow. They have been training hard throughout the pre-season, and we wish them a successful campaign. Round 1 of the netball season will also kick off this weekend, with our teams eager to take to the courts after a strong pre-season of training. We wish all players the very best for an exciting and competitive start to the season.

Winter Uniform

With the commencement of Term 2, students will be required to transition to the winter uniform. As the weather can still be warm at the beginning of the term, students may continue wearing the correct summer or winter uniform until Monday, 11 May. The Uniform Code is available below. Staff are guided by the Positive Behaviour Framework to address instances when students do not wear the uniform correctly. Please ensure that your child’s uniform fits correctly and that they are ready to transition into the winter uniform by Monday, 11 May, with the correct items.

Parenting today looks very different from a generation ago. We've moved beyond the era of strict, authoritarian approaches, but many parents are left wondering: how do we raise children who are independent, resilient, and emotionally healthy, while still providing the guidance they need? That's exactly what Dr Justin Coulson will explore in this engaging, evidence-based presentation. A father of six, author of nine books on parenting and family life, and co-host of Channel 9's Parental Guidance, Dr Coulson brings warmth, humour, and genuine insight to the topics that matter most to families today.

On the night, you can expect to explore:

  • How to better understand your child's emotional needs at every age and stage
  • Practical, science-backed strategies to strengthen your relationship with your child
  • How to create a home environment where children genuinely thrive

This is a wonderful opportunity for our parent community to come together, be inspired, and connect with other families over refreshments afterwards.

Health Centre

The Health Centre provides valuable support to students when they are unwell or injured. When a student presents to the Health Centre, our experienced College Nurses, Jo Cook and Judy Buckley, may assess their fitness to remain at school and decide that the student is too unwell to return to the classroom.  In this case, parents will be called to collect their child. It is important that parents keep their contact details up to date with the College, including an alternative contact, so that in the event of a student being too unwell to remain at school, they or the alternative contact can be easily contactable. For the comfort of an unwell student and the safety of others, particularly in the case of an infectious illness, parents or alternative contacts are requested to collect the student within an hour of being contacted.

Please note that the Health Centre has changed its email address. Please direct all queries to health.centre@johnxxiii.edu.au.

Cross-Country Carnival

This year's John XXIII College Interhouse Cross-Country was one to remember. Blessed with warm weather, participants took to the course with enthusiasm, pushing themselves to their limits for themselves and their House. The cheering and spirit from all students were continuous throughout the whole day; it was wonderful to see the immense pride students showed for their house.

A huge congratulations to Loreto House whose outstanding performances secured both the Fr Gaetan Pereira Cup and the Spirit Awards. Their speed, endurance, and teamwork were truly commendable, equally impressive was their enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

Beyond the competition, the event embodied what makes John XXIII College so special: friendship, encouragement, and a collective commitment to striving for one's best. Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and made the day such a memorable occasion and a big thank you to all staff who helped bring the day to life!

Senior Eagles Cup (First XVIII)

Round One of the Senior Eagles Cup saw our First XVIII Football team battle it out against John Forrest Secondary College. The centre clearance work from our midfield contingent was particularly strong, with Charlie Azzopardi (Ruck) linking up nicely with Alex Tang, Hamish Pearce and Max Brooks. A tight first half saw the score at JTC - 2.3: 15 to JFSC 1.1: 7; however, they controlled large parts of the game without reward for their good work.

The second half saw the floodgates open, and the team piled on 7 second-half goals while holding John Forrest goalless. The final score finished at:

JTC - 9.3 (57)

JFSC - 1.3 (9)

Next fixture

  • Wednesday, 6 May
  • Shenton College (H) v John XXIII College (A)

  • 4:00pm bounce down.

Session One will commence on Friday morning of this term (May 8) and run from 7:00am to 8:00am, continuing on Friday mornings for the remainder of the term.

Please note: this is not a 'come and try' theme. This program will be for current season players, designed to improve their capacities with like-minded football athletes.
