At Greenhills, we are committed to creating a safe, supportive and positive learning environment where every child can thrive. Through our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework, we explicitly teach and regularly revisit the expectations, routines and procedures that help our students Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be Kind.
Throughout the year and especially at the beginning of each term, teachers intentionally reinforce these expectations across all areas of the school. Whether it's moving safely around the school, working collaboratively in the classroom, caring for our environment or demonstrating kindness towards others, these routines help build consistency and confidence for every student.
This week, our Year 3/4 team shared a wonderful example during our staff briefing. Students have been enjoying the opportunity to share lunch together outdoors as a class. While this is a simple experience, it provides a valuable opportunity for students to practise our school expectations in an authentic setting—showing respect for one another, taking responsibility for the environment by cleaning up after themselves, and strengthening friendships through positive social interactions.
These everyday moments are an important part of our wellbeing approach. By explicitly teaching, practising and celebrating positive behaviours, we are helping our students develop the skills they need to be successful learners and caring members of our school community.

This is your final chance to book tickets for our disco this Friday (Tickets close at midnight tonight).
At this stage we have 137 students attending the Prep – Year 2 session from 5.30pm until 7pm and 172 students attending the Years 3-6 session from 7.30pm to 9pm.
A big shoutout and thank you to Jonathan Jayarajan for organizing this event and to all our parents and staff members who are helping on the night.
Working Together for a Safe Start to the Day

As a reminder, the six clearly signed Kiss & Drop spaces on the left-hand side of Mine Street are designed for quick drop-offs only. Drivers should remain with their vehicle while children exit independently and walk into the school grounds.
These spaces are not for parking or leaving your vehicle between 8am and 9.30am.
If you wish to accompany your child into school, please park in one of the available parking spaces outside the Kiss & Drop zone.
Our morning traffic flow depends on every family doing the right thing. Even one parked vehicle in the Kiss & Drop zone can create unnecessary congestion and delays for everyone else. By following the signage and road rules, we can ensure that the area remains safe and efficient for all members of our school community.
Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation. Small actions from each of us make a significant difference to the safety and smooth operation of our school each morning.
Letters to our Year 6 families went home last term to confirm the secondary school they will attend. As usual, we have a large percentage of this cohort going to both Montmorency and St. Helena Secondary Colleges. Other schools our students will attend next year include Greensborough College, Bundoora Secondary College, Eltham High, Macleod College, Templestowe College and a few private or Catholic schools.
I take this opportunity to thank Nicole Pearson who manages our Year 6-7 transition for our school and all the work she does to support our families in the process.
We are now at the point of confirming our prep enrolment for 2027. We are also gearing up for our “Experience Greenhills” sessions that are part of our transition program. These sessions aim to assist children and their families to feel comfortable and informed as they begin their learning journey at our school. The first session is Performing Arts on Monday 10th August. Details on how to book were included in the letter of confirmation sent home this week.
At Greenhills, we encourage students to become self-directed learners who can set meaningful goals, stay organised, persevere through challenges and reflect on their progress. Each week, we invite families to continue these conversations at home using the reflection question below. Just a few minutes of discussion can help children develop the habits of successful lifelong learners.
What steps have you planned to help you achieve your goal?
James Penson,
Principal.
