What's Happening in Grade 6?

Every Friday morning, our Grade 5/6 students participate in interschool sport. In recent weeks, we have competed against Overnewton, Hillside, Sydenham and Mary MacKillop Primary School in cricket, volleyball, European handball and basketball.

Interschool sport is a wonderful opportunity for our students to stay active, practise teamwork and connect with students beyond our school community. It is also especially exciting for our Grade 6 students, who may meet new friends they will attend secondary school with next year!

Our Grade 6 students are currently learning about information reports and will transition to explanation texts in the coming weeks. They have loved researching and writing about different endangered animals, while also connecting their literacy learning to our Chemical Sciences inquiry topic through exploring the states of matter.

Our Grade 6 students are learning about cartesian planes and how to interpret coordinates to make shapes, translate their position and to decipher messages.  In the coming weeks they will be starting a multiplication unit and a statistics unit.

Inquiry this term delves into science, particularly chemistry and physics.  The chemistry unit looks at Chemistry in the Kitchen and our Grade 6 students have been hard at work growing salt crystals and making plastic from milk and delving into the concepts of reversible and irreversible changes.
