Naidoc Week Celebrations 

Students across the school participated in NAIDOC week celebrations last week. In the Art Room, a number of different activities took place. We learnt about the history of NAIDOC week and this year's theme "50 Years of Deadly." Grade P/1/2 students learnt some Indigenous languiage, a dance, and began an artwork based on "Nyunga" or "The Sun". Grade 3/4/5/6 students did a deep dive into famous Aboriginal artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye, and began an abstract artwork inspired by her beautiful landscapes. 

Visiting Aboriginal Artist

We welcomed local Aboriginal artist Tammy Atkinson into the school on Wednesday to share stories of her art journey, and to complete an art activity with the students. Grade 1 and 2 students were lucky enough to learn about how Tammy uses specific Aboriginal symbols in her art to help her to tell stories. Students then used these symbols to tell their own story, either about their family or a special place. Tammy will be back to work with Foundation, Grades 3, 4, 5 & 6 next Thursday. The artworks created while Tammy is visiting will be displayed in the foyer once complete.
