Auslan

Grade 1 and 2

In week 9, Grade 1 and 2 students will explore emotions and feelings, learning signs for familiar emotions such as happy, sad, excited, angry, scared and tired. Students will discover how facial expressions and other non-manual features (NMFs) work alongside signs to help communicate how someone is feeling. Through partner conversations, students will practise asking and responding to simple questions about their emotions using Auslan.

Grade 3 and 4

This week in Auslan, Grade 3 and 4 students will explore emotions and feelings, expanding their vocabulary to communicate a wider range of emotions such as happy, excited, nervous, confused, embarrassed and proud. Students will focus on the important role of facial expressions and non-manual features (NMFs) in communicating meaning and emotion in Auslan. Through whole-class activities, games and partner conversations, students will practise asking and responding to questions about how they are feeling and interpreting the emotions of others.

Grade 5 and 6

Grade 5 and 6 students will develop their ability to express and discuss emotions and feelings using a broader range of vocabulary. Through interactive scenarios and partner conversations, students will practise asking how others are feeling, sharing their own emotions and giving simple reasons for their responses.

Performing Arts

Prep students are continuing to work on songs from Beauty and the Beast while also exploring character in Drama. This week, they'll step into the imaginative world of a royal castle, using movement, voice and expression to create and play different characters.

Grade 1/2 students are continuing to develop their singing for Beauty and the Beast. They’ll also have the opportunity to rehearse alongside some of our Grade 5/6 lead characters, helping them see how their part fits into the bigger production. Students will also use their puppets they created this term, using them for imaginative world-building, storytelling and exploring different voices and characters.

Grade 3/4 students are working towards completing their puppet film stories. This week, they’ll finalise the recording of their performances by using green screen in iMovie on their iPads to place their puppet characters into different settings.

Grade 5 students are rehearsing and refining the puppet shows they have created for their new Prep buddies, focusing on bringing their stories and characters to life ready to share with their buddies.

Grade 6 students are putting the final touches on their cardboard puppet performances. After planning, rehearsals and set buildi they’ll share their finished performances with their Prep buddies later in the week.

🏃‍♀️ District Athletics

Last week, our students represented Wonga Park Primary School at the Ringwood North District Athletics Carnival.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, our students competed with enthusiasm, determination and plenty of smiles. They gave their best throughout the day and represented our school with great sportsmanship and spirit. We were very proud of the way they supported and encouraged one another while competing against students from other schools across the district.

A special congratulations to the following students who have qualified to represent Wonga Park Primary School at the Maroondah/Manningham Division Athletics Carnival early next term:

Congratulations to all of our athletes who competed at District level. Qualifying for Division is a fantastic achievement, and we wish Olivia, Sienna, Rory, Theo, Charlyze, Victoria and Olivia K all the very best as they take on the next level of competition! 👏

🏀 Hooptime Success

Congratulations to all our Grade 3–6 students who represented Wonga Park Primary School at Hooptime last week. It was fantastic to see so many of our students getting involved, showing their skills and, most importantly, demonstrating great sportsmanship throughout both days.

At Junior Hooptime, all three of our Future Stars Girls teams progressed through to the semi-finals. The Wonga Park Panthers went one step further, making it through to the Grand Final where they produced a fantastic performance to take out the championship. Congratulations, Panthers!

Our Senior Hooptime teams also enjoyed a very successful day. The Grade 6 All Star Boys progressed through to the Grand Final, while our All Star Girls have qualified to move on to the next stage of the competition. Our Grade 6 Future Stars Girls also had a terrific day, winning their Grand Final and finishing as champions.

While the results were a fantastic reward for the students' hard work, it was their attitude and behaviour that impressed us most. Across both days, our students represented Wonga Park Primary School with pride, enthusiasm, respect and excellent sportsmanship. They encouraged their teammates, supported other schools and showed a willingness to have a go, regardless of the result.

A huge congratulations to all of our students who participated, and a big thank you to our coaches, teachers, Sport Captains and parents/carers who helped make both days such a success. We are very proud of everyone involved!
