SACRAMENT OF 

FIRST RECONCILIATION 2026

INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES

Dear Families

Soon your child will celebrate the Sacrament of First Reconciliation which recognises that we are human and we all make mistakes that impact our relationships with others. It is a sacrament the children can continue to receive throughout their lives, to ask for and receive forgiveness. This information is provided to assist you in preparing your child for this sacrament. 

PRESENTATION TO THE COMMUNITY

In the leadup to the celebration, all candidates are required to attend Mass at St. Brendan’s Church on Saturday 10th October at 5:30pm or at Holy Rosary Church on Sunday 11th October at 10:30am, to be presented to the community.  As candidate names are read aloud, they will be asked to stand and they will state their wish to receive the Sacrament by Father Andrew.  The presentation Mass is an important part of the candidates’ preparation for Reconciliation, so it is essential for all candidates to attend.  

For preparation purposes, please email me at smaguire@hrkensington.catholic.edu.au to confirm which Mass your family will attend. If you are unable to attend any of these Masses please also make contact to organise an alternative.

CELEBRATION OF RECONCILIATION

Children and their teachers will attend a liturgical celebration of Reconciliation at Holy Rosary Church on Friday 11 November at 10:00am following the parish Mass. As this event will be part of their school day, Reconciliation candidates will sit together, and will be supported by their classmates. Parents are welcome to attend this celebration, although we understand that you may not be available. Families may sit in the pews directly behind the children. 

PINS

Before the ceremony begins, teachers will attach a pin to each child’s lapel. At the conclusion of Reconciliation children may take their pin home as a memory of the sacrament.  

ACT OF CONTRITION

Your child will say The Act of Contrition during their First Reconciliation. Please practise this with them so they may say it confidently. Ideally, they will recite it, however, we understand that the children may be nervous and forget, so Father will have a copy, in case they need it. 

PHOTOS

You are welcome to take photos, however, we ask you to refrain from taking photos of other children.

DRESS CODE

Children should wear their academic uniform.
