Learning News - Term 3, Weeks 9-10
CAPA
K/1
This term, our K/1 students have been exploring how artists use colour, shape and pattern to communicate ideas and create meaning. We have enjoyed learning about the work of Henri Matisse and Australian artist Pete Cromer, identifying the unique features of their artistic styles and discussing what we appreciate about their artwork.
Inspired by these artists, students have experimented with a range of materials and techniques to create their own artworks. They have used bright colours, bold shapes and collage techniques to express their ideas creatively while developing their fine motor skills and artistic confidence.
As part of our learning, students have also practised appreciating art by sharing their observations, discussing what they notice in artworks and respectfully responding to the work of others. We are proud of the creativity, effort and enthusiasm students have shown as they continue to develop their understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts.

Year 2/3
Visual Arts: Students began exploring watercolour techniques by creating smooth background washes for atmospheric skies. Over the term, they will build spatial depth with paper hill silhouetting, design textured gum tree bark using cardboard printing, and apply wax-resist techniques with oil pastels and watercolors to depict native Australian wildlife.
Drama: The class kicked off their unit by using facial expressions, vocal tone, and body posture to convey character emotions and freeze frames.

Year 4
Over the term, Year 4 have been exploring sketching and colouring techniques on the theme of Australian animals. We have examined kangaroos, wombats, lorikeets and echidnas to name a few and have looked at shades, blending colours and the use of bold lines to capture an audience’s attention. We hope you enjoy our work samples.

This term, Stage 3 have been exploring how to express stories and emotions through dance. We have been breaking down the parts of dance, such as movement, spatial awareness and rhythm. The children have been so energetic showing off moves and practising a group project.
Early start of next term, stage 3 is going to explore Australia through other KLA’s. In art, they are going to create masterpieces of what Australia means to them. I can’t wait to see all the aspects of Australian life they will come up with.
