KINDERGARTEN NEWS

Week 6 is here and our Kindergarten classroom is buzzing!  As we move through Term 2, it is wonderful to see how much the students have grown. They are developing new skills every day, building friendships, and becoming more confident in their learning.  Here is a little about what we have been up to!

Maths

In Maths this term, our Kindergarten students have been busy exploring the world of 2D shapes!  Students have practised sorting, describing, and naming familiar shapes, and have enjoyed representing these shapes in their own creative ways.  We’ve also started investigating length, with students learning to create "half a length" using different materials. Alongside our exploration of 2D shapes and length, our Kindergarten students have also been learning that a group of items can be sorted in different ways.  Through sorting activities, the children have discovered how the same items can be organised based on different characteristics, such as colour, size, or shape.

English

In English, our Kindergarten class has been reading fun books about magical friends and adventures, like Thelma the Unicorn, Chip, and Elmer.  We have spent time listening to stories, talking about characters and feelings, drawing pictures, and writing simple sentences about what happens in the books.  The children have learned new words, shared their ideas, and worked together to create their own little stories.  Our lessons have helped everyone practise reading and talking.

Science

In Science, Kindergarten students have been exploring textures and materials all around them. They used their senses to look closely at different objects and described how they feel, such as bumpy, smooth, soft, fluffy, and rough. Together, we made a fun “Texture Monster” using a mix of materials! The children have been learning lots of new words to describe what they observe.  They sorted objects into groups based on their texture and the type of material they’re made from, like wood, metal, plastic, fabric, and paper. It’s been exciting to see the children use words like “hard,” “soft,” “shiny,” and “bendy” to talk about the things they touch every day. We were also very excited that we got to use magnifying glasses to get a closer look at textures and surface of natural objects in the nature area!

PDHPE

This term in PDHPE, our Kindergarten students have been learning about personal strengths and how these make each of us unique and special.  Through fun circle time activities, we have talked about things we are good at, like being kind, listening, or playing games, and how these strengths help shape who we are.  We also explored the importance of family and community, discussing the people who make us feel safe and loved.  Using drawings and sharing, students reflected on family members and community groups that help them feel connected and supported.

We are very excited to start Gymnastics this week and are very much looking forward to our visit to Thalgarrah in a couple of weeks.  Thank you for your continued support!
