Melbourne Zoo 

“Year 7 students enjoyed an engaging day at Melbourne Zoo, where they explored the concepts of classification and adaptation through direct observation of a wide range of animals. Students investigated how animals are grouped according to shared characteristics and use visible features such as body structures, coverings, feeding adaptations and methods of movement to classify different species. As they explore the zoo, students also identified physical and behavioural adaptations that help animals survive in their natural environments, considering how features such as camouflage, specialised limbs, teeth, claws and feeding structures provide advantages. Through observation activities, students can connect their classroom learning to real-world examples and develop a deeper understanding of how the diversity of animals is linked to their adaptations and environments.”
