Another busy, interesting and productive fortnight has gone by at Croydon SDS! Our focus on developing our students as writers continued this week with some further staff learning and student classroom experiences with another visit from Helen Tainsh, our Literacy consultant.  

Thank you to Linda and Lal who supported several parents/carers  with  Post School Provider tours over the past couple of weeks. These groups visited a range of services which provide programs and supports for young people once they finish school at age 18. We encourage families to begin thinking about and considering options for their child as they move through secondary school so that both the students and families feel prepared and confident about the next steps for when a young person graduates from Croydon SDS.

Students also enjoyed purchasing items for their Fathers/ Grandfathers and other special people in their lives at our Fathers' Day stall this week. This was organised and run by our senior secondary students and staff who did an amazing job. It was obvious that students enjoyed purchasing gifts to take home. 

Wishing all our dads, grandads and other special family and friends a very Happy Father's Day on Sunday! 

Emergency Management Plan 

We have just finished working on our Croydon SDS Emergency Management Plan which runs from September 2026 to September 2027. This is completed by all government schools and overseen by the Department of Education. 

Our school plans for a range of hazards, such as severe weather, medical emergencies, building fires, intruders, bush/grass fires and bus emergencies. We develop specific response procedures to address these risks. We also conduct drills regularly, ensuring that our core procedures of on-site and off-site evacuation, sheltering-in-place, and lockdown/lockouts are well-rehearsed and understood by staff and students. 

For the information of all families who have children who travel on the Crown bus before and after school runs. On days of Catastrophic fire danger in the Central district, Crown bus runs will be cancelled. 

If we enact our emergency management plan, we will notify you by Compass notification, with updates on our actions. Please do not come to the school unless directed to do so, as you may put yourself and others in danger. If there is anything we need you to do, we will let you know. 

During an emergency, the school will work closely with emergency services to get specific advice to keep our community safe. Additionally, the Department of Education has dedicated emergency management staff to help monitor the situation and provide additional support to schools during emergencies.
