English

English
We will continue the concepts taught in InitiaLit–1. This term we will focus on:
Phonics
We will look at the sounds /ow/, /ou/, /aw/, /au/, /ff/, /ll/, /ss/, /y/, /ey/, /oy/, /oi/, /ear/, /eer/, /air/, adding suffixes /ed/, /ly/, contractions and review split digraphs such as /a_e/, /i_e/, /o_e/, /e_e/ and /u_e/. We will apply these sounds to children’s reading and spelling.
Vocabulary
We will continue to read picture storybooks to strengthen students’ comprehension and expand their vocabulary.
Writing
Students will continue to build on their writing skills by focusing on different writing styles, including imaginative, persuasive, recount, and procedure forms. They will practice including adjectives and verbs in sentences. During handwriting practise, our focus is to form letters correctly and place them on the lines.
Home Reading
Please continue to listen to your child read at home four nights a week.
