Principal's Update

It has been another busy and exciting couple of weeks at Kangaroo Flat Primary School, with many wonderful learning opportunities and celebrations taking place across our school community. 

A huge thank you to our Grade 3 and 4 staff for providing our students with the opportunity to attend the recent excursion to Scienceworks and the Melbourne Museum. These experiences are such a valuable way to bring learning to life and create lasting memories for our students. 

I would also like to acknowledge and thank Katie McKellar, Lisa Daff, Karen Plain and Matt Giles for supporting our Grade 2 students on their very first overnight camp at the Discovery Centre. 

I dropped in on Saturday morning and, while there were certainly some tired little faces, it was clear that everyone had a wonderful time! Camps provide valuable opportunities for students to build independence, resilience and friendships, and our students embraced the experience beautifully. 

Some Very Special Arrivals 

We also have some exciting personal news to celebrate within our school community. Mr Hansen and his family have welcomed their beautiful baby daughter, Junie, into the world. Mum and bub are doing well, and Jonti is absolutely over the moon. 

Mr Woodward and his family have also welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Daisy. Mum and bub are doing well, and Mr Woodward is equally smitten with his new arrival! 

While our new dads enjoy some well-deserved paternity leave and precious family time, we warmly welcome Miss Angela and Miss B, who will be supporting these classrooms until the end of term. 

Cushion Concert – Showcasing Our Wonderful School 

I was incredibly proud of our school and our talented staff and students who welcomed local kinders and childcare groups to our Cushion Concert. This was a wonderful opportunity for young children to experience school life, connect with our community and see some of the many things that make our school so special. 

Our Koorie F–2 Choir did an amazing job singing, while our Foundation students from Room 10 got everyone moving with a brain break. Rohan entertained our visitors with his trumpet, Rose and four of our Grade 5/6 students showcased their Drumbeat skills, and Lauchlan West shared his talents on the didgeridoo. 

We welcomed more than 100 visitors, which was fantastic! Events like this are such an important way for us to strengthen connections with our local community while showcasing our amazing students, staff and school. 

A very special thank you to Sonia Rodgers, our Transition Coordinator, for all her work organising the buses, activities and ensuring the event ran so smoothly. 

Book Week Fun 

I was disappointed to miss our Book Week celebrations, but I have loved seeing the photos of all the fantastic costumes! Thank you to our parents and carers for supporting your children to get involved. I know organising a Book Week costume can sometimes be a challenge – those days are behind me now! – but the excitement and smiles certainly make it worthwhile. 

Hats Are Back! 

A friendly reminder that, in line with our SunSmart Policy, hats are now required when students are outside at school. Please help your child locate their school hat and remember to bring it each day. 

If a hat has been lost or misplaced, Aboriginal design school hats are available from the school office, or green school hats can be purchased from Lowes. 

This week will be a grace period; however, from next week, students without a hat will be required to remain in the amphitheatre during break times. 

Thank you for helping us keep our students safe in the sun. 

Fathers and Special Friends – This Friday 

This Friday we look forward to celebrating our fathers and Special Friends with our annual breakfast and stall. Breakfast will be served from 8:30am in the canteen area, with sausages, tea and coffee available. We warmly invite all fathers, grandfathers, carers and special friends to come along so we can celebrate you! 

A big thank you to our dedicated Parent Club, who have organised the gift stall and raffle. There are some fantastic prizes on offer, with the raffle being drawn on Friday afternoon. 

We have also had families asking if they can have additional raffle tickets – absolutely! If you would like more, please pop into the office to collect some or ask your child to see Ange or Bekk. 

We look forward to seeing many of you on Friday morning and celebrating the important role our fathers and special friends play in the lives of our students. 

Coming Up Next Week 

We have another busy week ahead Week 9! On Tuesday, our School Council will meet, followed by Division Basketball on Wednesday. We wish all of our students participating the very best of luck – Miss Ainslee has sent information home to the students involved. Thursday is R U OK? Day, an important opportunity to remind our students and community about the value of checking in with one another and starting meaningful conversations. Also on Thursday, our Grade 6 students will showcase their learning at the Passions and Pathways Expo at the Bendigo Library. We are looking forward to seeing them proudly share the projects they have been working on and celebrating their learning. 

There is NO assembly Friday 11th September.

Looking Ahead to Week 10 

Week 10 marks the final week of Term 3, and we have a few exciting activities to finish the term. On Monday, selected students will represent our school at Division Athletics, and we wish them all the very best as they compete. Our Golden Ticket Activity will take place on Wednesday, celebrating students who have demonstrated our school expectations throughout the term. 

Friday 18th September will be our final day of Term 3, bringing another busy and successful term to a close. Early 2:30pm finish.
