Yearbook Art Cover Competition
Do you want your artwork to be featured as the cover of the 2026 Lowanna College yearbook? All year levels are welcome to participate in our Yearbook Cover Art Competition and we welcome any art medium (painting, drawing, photography etc)! Art must be A4 vertical orientation. Please send your art piece to Jack Shanks by the end of Week 6 (Friday 21 August).
Science Week
The college will be celebrating all things Science in Week 6 for National Science Week. See below for more information - we encourage our students to get involved and have fun with the activities on offer.
Italy Trip EOI
We are in the process of planning a trip to Italy in 2027 (subject to School Council approval)! This immersive tour is a wonderful way for students to learn more about the Italian culture, embrace a different place and (for students learning the language) practice speaking Italian in Italy! Do you want to visit some of the most famous sights in Italy and the world? Visit the Colosseum, Vatican City, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and much more on this incredible trip to Italy! Italy Trip Information Night
All eligible students (Year 9, 10 or 11 in 2027) and their families who are interested in the 2027 Italian Tour (subject to School Council approval) are invited to come along to an in-person information session with the tour organiser, Vita Italian Tours. The information night will be held on Wednesday 12 August in the Language Centre (L4) from 6.30pm-7.30pm. This will be a great opportunity for our interested students and their families to ask questions and learn more about the tour. Please RSVP using the below link:

Attendance Matters
Mobile Phones, AirPods and Headphones
In line with both the Department of Education and Lowanna College Mobile Phone Policy, students must ensure that mobile phones are switched off and securely stored throughout the school day. Students are encouraged to leave their phones at home; however, if phones are brought to school, they must be turned off and securely stored in a locker or at their Mini School between 8:45 am and 3:00 pm.
This policy also applies to AirPods, earbuds and headphones, which are not permitted during school hours.

Senior School Formal
Students and staff had a great night at the Senior School Formal last term.
Book Week
Book Week and more specifically, Book Week Dress Up Day, is a significant event on the Lowanna College calendar. This year, Dress Up Day is on Thursday 27 August. Start thinking about what character you will be dressing as this year!
There will be a Book Swap on Tuesday of Book Week which will be free for all staff and students. We are currently looking for donations. If you would like to donate any pre-loved or new books to our book swap, please drop them off at the General Office.
Bus Passes
A big thank you to our students and families for how they've accepted and adapted to using their school bus passes and ensuring they have them for travel. Please continue to present these to the bus drivers and staff and have it available to present on request. Should students misplace their bus pass or lose it, the card can be replaced for a fee of $10. This can be paid in cash or over the phone by calling the General Office (03 5127 9200).
Footy Colours Day
Footy Colours Day is on Thursday 13 August! Students can attend school out of uniform on this day provided they are dressed in footy colours and bring a gold coin donation. Gold coin donations will be collected for dressing up (money collected during homegroup), hair colouring at lunchtime and the BBQ lunch ($2 for a sausage). Students and staff will also enjoy watching the ice bucket challenge at lunchtime! All money raised will go towards MND research. Thank you to our SRC for organising this fundraiser.

Krispy Kreme Donut Drive
Our School Captains are organising a Krispy Kreme Drive to raise money for their Year 12 Celebration Day! Students should have received order forms in home group this week. Order forms and payment (cash or EFTPOS) can be made at the General Office. Orders are now open until the 27th of August!
Computing Excursion
Earlier this term our Year 10 Computing students visited the Gippsland Tech School to experience industry game development software and hardware. They used Unreal Engine to create and customise a version of the popular game 'Flappy Bird' and then play tested and reviewed each other's creations.
State Futsal Success
Earlier this term our U14 and U19 girls attended the School Futsal Titles. The U14s had a great day of developing their skills and being challenged by some of the best. They left the competition with new ideas, a newfound confidence and lots of learning opportunities. Although they didn't win, it was a great learning experience.
The U19 girls had a great day, making it into the Grand Final and winning - 1-0. The girls will be heading to the National Championships in November.
A huge thanks to Allan Burkett for driving the bus and to the coaches (Dean and Miss Gibson) for supporting the girls throughout the day.
Head Start Success
Congratulations to Obama, Year 12, who has signed into a School-Based Apprenticeship/Traineeship (SBAT) with the support of Head Start.
Obama will be undertaking a Certificate III in School Based Education Support while working with South Street Primary School and continuing his school studies part-time. Head Start and Lowanna College wish Obama all the best as he gets his career off to a 'Head Start!'
Deb Ball Fundraiser
Deb Ball Dance Practice
Our Year 10 students have started their Deb rehearsals and are enjoying learning the dance moves! Thanks to Michelle from Amaka Creative for teaching our students the dances.
VM PARTY Program
Earlier this week our Year 11 VM students attended the P.A.R.T.Y. Program excursion. This program is a risk awareness and behaviour-changing education program that aims to empower young people with information about the choices they can make to reduce risk to themselves and others. The ultimate goal is to reduce the incidence of trauma in young people.
