Mini School Updates 

Junior School

It has been a positive start to Term 3 for our Junior School students in Years 7 and 8. It has been wonderful to see students return with enthusiasm, ready to engage in their learning and embrace the opportunities the new term has to offer. Classrooms have been filled with positive energy and students have settled back into routines quickly, demonstrating a commitment to learning and supporting one another. We are still focusing on our Behaviour Improvement Plan from last semester and in line with that we encourage families to continue supporting students by maintaining regular attendance, encouraging organisation and staying connected with school communications.

Throughout the term, students will continue to participate in a range of engaging learning experiences, extracurricular activities and school events that encourage them to grow academically, socially and personally. 

This week our families should be receiving information in regard to subject selection for 2027. These letters will provide valuable information to help students and families make informed decisions about subject selections. We encourage you to read the information carefully and discuss the available options together.

We look forward to another successful term and thank our students, families and staff for their ongoing support and commitment to our school community.

Middle School

Welcome back into Term 3, a very busy time for Middle School, as we look into planning for 2027 and celebrating some fun events this term. 

Over 100 of our Year 10s had a great time away on Work Experience (with several others also planning on heading out into the big wide world over the next month). Students were excited to see so many staff of Lowanna visiting them whilst they were out ‘working’ and trying occupations they might enjoy in the future. The stories of success have been great to listen to this week and we are very proud of everyone who went out (or is going out) and focusing on their future pathway. Next week, all Year 10 students have been booked in for Course Selection Meetings – so they have some work to do before that to decide what course/subjects they want to do in 2027. 

As a Mini School, we have been trialing a Behaviour Support Program which has had a positive impact for many students. Having students check in with us before school as well as monitoring their choices in class has had a positive impact already. Furthermore, we are looking to embrace student's success through the value of respect and will be rewarding the students demonstrating it. 

Another highlight of our week at the moment is Deb Practice, with 88 Year 10 students learning to cha-cha, box step and other dance moves. It is great to see such great moves and positive attitudes by the students. We are looking forward to the Deb Ball at the end of the term. 

For all Year 9s who will be Year 10s next year, you should have received a letter with your EDVAL code in it, allowing you to log in and complete your course selection. Please do this by the end of next week, in consultation with your parents/guardians. It is important that you choose subjects that you enjoy and will find success in. 

Please remind students that despite the cold weather, tracksuit pants and hoodies are not allowed to be worn – and that all phones need to be in lockers during the school day.

Senior School

As we head into the second half of the year it is common for student motivation to fall. It is more important than ever that each student refocusses on why they are at school and how their performance this year will set them up with options for the future. The Senior School Team held the '50 days left morning tea' for our Year 12 students as a celebration of how far they have come. Although the end is in sight for the Year 12 group, there is still a lot to do and there is still time to improve. Our Year 11s are about to confirm their subjects for 2027 and we will be speaking with all of them to provide some guidance on their pathways. 

Many of our students have been receiving green chronicle entries after being noticed by their teachers as doing something positive and out of the ordinary. I would encourage all students to think about how they could enrich their own or others’ experiences at school by demonstrating the school values. It is important to remember that doing the right thing is worthwhile whether you are recognised for it or not. 

Year 12 English students will participate in the second intensive enrichment session to better focus their responses and prepare for their final SACs and exam in Week 5. To further enrich their knowledge in other subjects, Federation University are offering revision lectures over the September break. Year 12 students aiming to achieve an ATAR would benefit from attending these free events and from completing as many trial exams as possible. All students should continue to ask for help when needed and be proactive in their own learning.
