Secondary 7/8
Term 2

Secondary 7/8
Term 2
What a busy, challenging and fun term it has been for our Year 7 and 8 students.
The highlight of the term was undoubtedly our camp at Camp Toolangi. Students enjoyed staying overnight with their year level and taking part in a range of new and exciting outdoor activities, including bushwalking, the flying fox, possum glider and damper making. Our Year 8 students were also treated to a special activity where they built and raced their own go-karts. We were incredibly fortunate to enjoy beautiful weather throughout the camp, making it a memorable experience for everyone involved.
This term, students have also been exploring what it means to be a good citizen. As part of this learning, students investigated rules and laws and took a walk to Gresswell Forest to observe local road rules in action. We were fortunate to welcome the Mayor of Banyule, who spoke with students about local government and answered student questions about topics such as how playgrounds are built and how young people can have a voice in community decisions.
Another highlight was the Smiles and Sirens police incursion. Students enjoyed learning about the many different roles police officers undertake within the community. They had the opportunity to try on police uniforms, have their fingerprints taken and even test their speed against a speed camera. It was a fun and engaging experience that helped students better understand the important work of Victoria Police.
Excitement has also been building as rehearsals have begun for this year's 7/8 Spectacular production of Mamma Mia. Auditions have been completed, lead roles have been cast and students have started rehearsing their lines and songs. It has been wonderful to see the posters appearing around the school and hear the familiar sounds of ABBA filling our classrooms.
A huge thank you goes to all of the Year 7 and 8 staff who make these opportunities possible for our students. Your dedication, teamwork and support of each other creates the positive and engaging experiences that our students enjoy. I am incredibly grateful for everything you do.
