Secondary 7/8 Term 2
Secondary 7/8A, B, E and H really enjoyed making their stop motion movies in Term 2.
They planned, filmed and edited short movies using interesting backgrounds and LEGO characters. Students added special effects including sound and titles. They shared their movies with each other and discussed the importance of asking permission before taking or sharing images and videos. The students also created a learning portfolio in PowerPoint. It was a fantastic term for the 7/8s!

Digital music and songwriting have been explored through a number of mediums by all secondary sections. Students have composed music as a class using traditional lyric writing methods, beat making through a DAW (Ableton Live), and experimenting with AI prompting (Suno AI). This has led to some really impressive pieces of music. Secondary classes have also explored DJing and the basic functionality of a Pioneer DJ controller.
This term, students in Year 7/8 enjoyed learning more about soccer and learnt to apply their skills in modified games. Students tried their best to work together, practising communication and what it means to show good sportsmanship.
Selected students also joined the Concord Cross Country team, competing in 3 km events at School Sport Victoria (SSV) Banyule Division and Northern Metro Regional Cross Country Championships. Sixteen students participated in these events, with many progressing to the State Final next term.

Year 7/8 students revisited the Concord School Expectations and reflected on what they need from themselves and their environment to be successful learners. They practised strategies such as using fidgets, incorporating movement and setting individual goals to support regulation and engagement.
Students made a strong start to Drug Education, exploring what medicines are, why they are used and how food and medicines travel through the body. Through practical activities, they increased their understanding of how the body works and the effects medicines can have. Next term, students will learn about prescription and over‑the‑counter medicines, focusing on safe and responsible use.
Next term, students will focus on learning about prescription and over-the-counter medicines, with an emphasis on how to use them safely and responsibly to protect themselves and others.

Year 7/8 students spent the term developing a final plate artwork for the Section Spectacular, inspired by traditional Greek pottery designs, patterns and colours. They drafted in grey lead pencil, refined colour choices with coloured pencil, and completed final pieces using textas, permanent and acrylic markers. Students worked through 2D templates and practice plates before their final work. They supported each other with thoughtful feedback, and their enthusiasm and pride in their work was clear throughout.

This term, 7/8 students have enjoyed playing drama games to improve their performance skills. Students have explored movement through dance and puppetry while learning how these dramatic mediums can communicate feelings and stories. 7/8 students have relished the performance practice as they begin to prepare for the Spectacular in Term 3.

Students in the 7/8 section are learning about the five food groups. They have been introduced to dairy, fruit, vegetables, grains and proteins. Students enjoyed sort and match activities with plastic fruit and vegetables, demonstrating their understanding. Porridge with honey was well received on a cool autumn day during the grains learning. Students sequenced the wheat to bread process and can identify some common grains. They will celebrate their learning by using the five food groups to make pizza.

Students in Secondary 7/8A, 7/8B, 7/8E and 7/8H have participated in a variety of exciting experiments and demonstrations focusing on acid and base reactions. These experiments included blowing up a balloon with a chemical reaction, erupting lemon, citric acid and bicarb, bath bombs and dancing rice. For each experiment, students recognised that a chemical reaction was taking place by observing bubbles, hearing a fizzing sound and feeling a temperature change. Students also completed rainbow raincloud and rainbow Skittles experiments.
