Girton Netball Teams

While most of us were keeping warm by the fire last Friday night, five of our Senior School Girton Netball teams and their coaches were battling atrocious conditions on the outdoor courts at Red Energy Arena. Their commitment and resilience shone through with four out of the five teams securing spots in the finals, which commence next week.

We also had a number of junior teams competing with the elements on Saturday morning. Thank you to the players, coaches, parents, carers and supporters for showing such great dedication to our Co-Curriculum.

ICCES Winter Carnival Results

At the end of last term, 148 students and 17 staff competed across basketball, netball, soccer and hockey in an action-packed inter-school tournament at the ICCES Winter Tour in Shepparton. I'm proud to report that our teams represented the school with pride, grit and sportsmanship.

In basketball, our Senior and Junior Boys played hard, coming 5th and 4th respectively. Both our Senior Girls and the Junior Girls made it to the preliminary finals, each finishing third overall. Across all divisions, our players showed skill against strong competition.

Our netball teams delivered strong performances. The Intermediate Girls finished runners-up after a tough two days. Our Junior and Senior Girls finished third and fourth respectively, not quite making grand final spots but leaving with their heads high.

In soccer, Girton teams were consistently competitive. After a scare on the first day, our Intermediate Boys returned strongly to finish first overall in a penalty shootout. Our Junior Girls and Junior Boys both tried valiantly, finishing third. Our Open Girls and Senior Boys, while making it to the Grand Final, each fell just short against Braemar—the boys also in a penalty shootout. For our Open girls, they've now made the grand final two years in a row and just missed out on the title of champion. I think I can speak for both teams now when I say they look forward to changing that result next year.

Finally, the surprise packet of our Tour Team, senior hockey. Girton secured a third place finish, winning their elimination final before being edged out in the preliminary final by Hamilton, a strong hockey school.

I would particularly like to thank our staff who coached, managed and assisted our teams.

Overall, it was two days of determination, success, and school spirit. The final results saw us come second overall—a huge congratulations to all players and coaches. You’ve done Girton proud both on and off the field.

Well done, everyone!
